Internet, censorship, two-thirds of users – LOOP.it

Two-thirds of the world’s internet users live in Countries which are subject to forms of censorship, even online. Black mesh to China, followed by Syria and Iran (North Korea is not monitored). Italy the figure as “free”. This is what emerges from the annual report of Freedom House, which for the sixth consecutive year in 2016, the online freedom is diminished. The study covers 65 Countries, accounting for 88% of the global population is online, for the period June 2015-may 2016.

“pay” more the price of freedom online are users of social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, but not only. Increasing the attention of governments on app of communication, such as WhatsApp and Telegram, in particular during protests or events such as the anti-governmental.

Also users of social media, notes the report, were subject to sanctions without precedent: in the last year in 38 Countries, authorities have made arrests on the basis of content published on the social. More than a quarter of internet users (27%) lives in Countries where people were arrested for having published, shared, or only shown interest (with a “like” content on Facebook.
