Amazon Dash arrives in Italy: conquer the world one button at a time – Corriere della Sera

Amazon Dash

For a company that has created shopping on the web, a physical object to make purchases may seem like a paradox. Instead Amazon Dash is a gagdet that is perfectly in line with the philosophy of "1 click" that has made the success of the company Jeff Bezos.
Dash is a button. A simple object, but is connected, which to all effects is part of the "Internet of Things" (IoT), and on the contrary it embodies an aspect perfectly efficient, and far from useless weirdness of many of the objects of the IoT. The basic idea is banal as it is brilliant: when you’re ending stocks in the home of a particular product, the razor blades, for example, crush on the button and it will automatically order that you will be delivered the following day. Each button is linked to one and only one brand, whose logo appears in the manifest on the button press.
In the United States, Dash debuted last year and now the brand is equipped with a button are more than 200 brand s. We part with a 27 brands: Ace, Barilla, Biorepair, Brabantia, Caffè Vergnano 1882, Dash (detergent: what can generate a little bit of confusion with the Dash, the button…), Derwent, Durex, Fairy, Finish, GBC, Gillette, Huggies, Kleenex, Angelica, Lines and Lines Specialist, Mill White, Buff, Nobo, Pampers, Pellini, Play-Doh, Rexel, Scholl, Scottex, Scottonelle, Tampax.

Dash is activated by connecting it to the home wi-fi network, and performing, for the first time, the association with the app Amazon. A very simple procedure. After that everything is automatic: I press, and part the order. Or better, I get a notification on your smartphone, which allows me to cancel the process if the button was crushed in a manner not desired (perhaps from one of the children of the house) or if I changed my mind. If I confirm, the procedure and the day after you receive the goods. The whole is reserved for customers with Amazon Prime. The Dash contains a battery inside, the duration of which is estimated to be from Amazon in several years. Buy a button costs 4.99 euros but the price is compensated for entirely with your first order. In fact, therefore, does not cost anything.

dash2The philosophy behind a similar idea is to automate the purchases of the necessary goods but who do not have a value of "emotional" during the shopping: no one is particularly happy to go out to buy in store the toilet paper, the diapers or the detergent of the washing machine.
A solution, as the Dash is functional for those who are already highly loyal to a certain brand. And you must be able to receive (always and without problems), the shipment arrival, because you have a concierge in the building, or is always at home. All if you are unable to come to terms with the idea, to a certain extent is not really pleasant to have the house happily crowded with colourful logos. Because the logic want that the button go placed in places visible and strategic: on the washing machine, in the door of the pantry, in the closet where we keep the inventory, and so on.
Remain then the whole "green": every time I press a button the Dash-in-law a procedure to prepare a collection in the warehouse of the logistics of Amazon, it does load onto a truck, starts it up and get to my house, maybe several hundred kilometers of distance, and maybe to deliver 100 grams in all of the load.

going Back to how it works Dash, every button is associated with a trademark, and a one product. For example, Barilla, can I order spaghetti no. 5. If I want to order the fusilli, I have to change the product through the app. Or gives me a second Dash Barilla, each of which orders a different type of pasta.

The appearance, however, the most interesting and futuristic Dash, however, is in the perspectives of use, considerably more extensive than a simple button plastic. Amazon has announced the availability of the Amazon Dash Replenishment. Dash Replenishment is a cloud service that enables manufacturers of devices to enable their objects "connected" in a way that allows automatic articles from Amazon.
For example, a washing machine can order detergent or a printer, you can make a new order of ink or still, or a pitcher may turn on by itself, the purchase of a new filter for the water when the previous one is too old.
Between the device manufacturers that are working on the integration with the Dash Replenishment there are already names such as Grundig, Kyocera, Samsung and Whirlpool with Beko, Bosch and Siemens with regard to the domestic appliances.
The promise of home appliances, "smart" has bee n around for years but always lacked the last bit: who is it aimed at the object "smart" when he needs something? Of course, that piece we want to put Amazon. And it has a good chance of getting it.
