Dreambit, software that predicts how to grow old – Wired.it

Just insert photos and request to have a prediction on how to change the appearance of people over time, with different hair styles and in different cultures

As we would with hair long? And with a short cut? O with curly hair? And, again, as we look in a bit ‘of time? And in a different culture? To answer questions today Dreambit , the software presented to Siggraph , the computer graphics and interactive techniques conference underway in Ahnaheim, California, until 28 July.

Dreambit comes from the University of Washington and works basically relying on a search engine for images. Available for now in beta, you might get to the big public by the end of the year. The software brings together some of the skills developed earlier in the field of face recognition, 3D reconstruction and aging to develop forecasts and image search, as much as possible taking into account the shape of the face, expression and pose. All it takes, as told by the video presentation, a picture is starting. The rest is done by the software , relying on hundreds of thousands of photos for each category.

” It is difficult to recognize someone just look at his face because as human beings we are influenced also by the hair cutting or hair color, “ says the developer of Dreambit, Ira Kemelmacher-Shlizerman. For this, for example in the case of missing persons, it might be useful a tool like this that takes into account how the passage of time, but also as a style changes, can you change the look of a person.
