Facebook opens up the use of nicknames: the social programs has changed – The Messenger

Not only proper names, Facebook could also open up to pseudonyms and nicknames. The Social Network, as announced by manager Alex Shultz, in a letter to civil rights organizations, will introduce its new policy that asks members to use “real names” on the platform.

The move comes after repeated protests by LGBT community, transgender and Native Americans who often use fancy names or uncommon to register. The changes coming – in December the first test – are two. First, the social network will give users the opportunity to enter their personal information also a note explaining why you use a certain name. “It will help our team to better understand the situation,” says Alex Schultz. Secondly Facebook will make it difficult reports of users on the grounds that use fake names. In this way the company hopes to discourage those who abuse the instrument of ‘reports’ and to protect those who decide not to use a real name.

The opening comes after nearly a year of controversy, particularly after a letter to the company by the LGBT community and trans American. Schultz still defends the will of Facebook to continue to ask people to use the names with which “are known by family and friends”: makes Facebook “safer”, he explains, because it “is even more difficult for users to hide behind the ‘anonymity to make harassment, bullying or fraud against others ”
