WHY ‘are the “cockroaches”? And what does the word ‘Selfie’? Are just some of the questions that most Italians have there place this year at the most used search engine in the world, Google. The Mountain View company provides annual rankings of national trend of research (available on the website www.google.com/trends/2014) and also in 2014 the results have revealed more of a surprise.
Last year Italians, accomplices also the general election, they tried on Google especially words related policy and its characters. In 2014 prevailed searches of words related to the event of the year, the World Cup that took place in Brazil, but also the output of the new smartphone from Apple, the iPhone 6.
The rankings are a mirror fairly faithful of trending topics of the year and the web is confirmed almost as an ‘oracle’ to be able to ask questions about any aspect of human knowledge. Among the words triumphs “2014″, which is also the word most associated sought to 2014 (followed by Oscar and European elections), while among the protagonists of the competition is the footballer Cristiano Ronaldo more typed (followed by Spaniard Diego Costa and by Cyrus Still, while the first Italian in the top 10 is Andrea Pirlo in sixth place). The technology remains among the most followed topics: second fact is square “iPhone 6″ and in third place the actor Robin Williams, whose disappearance in August moved the entire world. In the top 10 stand out in sixth place “Ebola”, the virus exploded in West Africa, and the seventh “Schumacher” (the champion of Formula 1 is recovering after a serious accident in the snow). Eighth R 20;The Great Beauty”, the film by Paolo Sorrentino Oscar winner in 2014 for best foreign film.
Confirmations and surprises in the ranking of the most sought after by Italians: if Robin Williams and Michael Schumacher occupy the first two squares, in third place ranks the actor and writer Giorgio Faletti, who died this year. In the top ten also several surprises, such as the presence fourth in the state, soubrette Veronica Maya (the protagonist of an accident during the daring program Your Face Sounds Familiar ) or the singer and drag-queen Conchita Wurst, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, in ninth place.
But Italians seeking on Google do also to express doubts or questions in search of an answer on the web. And do not miss the special rankings of “why” and “how” that really make you smile. The ranking of the “why” emerging testifies as Italians this year have been obsessed with cockroaches: “Why are cockroaches” is in fact the first place, followed by because “Pepa dies” (for those who are unfamiliar with the soap opera, Pepa is the star of the television series The Secret ). In third place “because it is said leaflet.” But scrolling the top 10 there are surprising trend: in fifth place there “because you are suffering” (maybe the web could offer an answer), while seventh place it “because the Vietnam War” (many if they are still asking), while eighth place there “because the porcellum is unconstitutional”, reflecting the fact that the major themes of Ital ian politics are always typed on the web.
On Google also tries to understand the meaning of certain words: the word queen of 2014 is “Selfie”, a phenomenon that has exploded this year, followed by Pv and N.F.C. (Near Field Communication, in Italian literally “close communication”, a technology that provides wireless connectivity). Eighth wonder the acronym “INPS”. Even the ranking of “how to” reveals surprises: the ranking is led by “barbecue”, in second place the donuts. Makes you smile (but not too much) in fifth place the “evil eye” sign that the superstition still has a following in our country.
Of course, the web is also the best place where to organize your next holiday and be some idea of the goals to be achieved. At the first place stands a real surprise: it is Gozo, a small island 4 km from Malta, while the second place is Russia’s Sochi, a favorite of Vladimir Putin. Third in the Marche Pesaro. In the top ten also two Croatian islands, Pag and Krk.
The recipes are always sought after on-line: between the culinary specialties to which Italians were more interested are the “chatter” (known in some regions with the name frappe), the “piadina “and” crackers “in the top three. The number one trend in reference to the “emerging business” was Milan-Juventus, great classic of the Italian football championship, followed by the concert event of the Rolling Stones at the Circus Maximus and the Milan derby Milan-Inter.
The rankings of Google on rising searches are made through the analysis of billions of queries made during the year on the search engine. The tools available to the company of Mountain View does not identify users who carry out research because they are based on aggregate data and anonymous. For this reason it is not possible, for example, provide information on what to look for men rather than women, or young people than the elderly.
