“Many thousands of new cases of Ebola in Liberia are expected in the next three weeks.” It is the last agonizing informed the World Health Organization in its latest report, stressing the need for partner countries to be prepared for a “dramatic increase” in cases of Ebola in the countries where it is currently intense transmission of the virus.
The Liberia is the most ravaged by the virus, where the number of patients and deaths is higher.
Meanwhile, eleven multinational groups present in West Africa, among them the steel giant ArcelorMittal , today launched an appeal to strengthen the fight against the epidemic of Ebola and remove “all restrictions on travel.”
The presidents of the 11 groups, active mainly in the mining sector, “exhort” in a statement the “international community to pool its resources to help fight the virus and allow these countries to recover as quickly as possible from the effects of the epidemic.” They demand, among other things, “the immediate creation of humanitarian corridors and economic to the countries affected.”
Signatories of the appeal are: African Mining Services, ArcelorMittal, Aureus Mining, Dawnus Group, Golden Veroleum Liberia, Hummingbird Resources, IAMGOLD, London Mining, MonuRent, Newmont Mining and Randgold.
