According to the Living Planet Report 2014, more than 200 river basins, home to more than 2.5 billion people, suffer from a serious shortage of water for at least a month every year. With nearly one billion people already suffering from hunger, the report shows how climate change in synergy with the changes in land use, threatens biodiversity and could lead to further food shortages.

E ‘therefore essential, tells the WWF, proceed rapidly to serious negotiations that will achieve in 2015, on the occasion of the Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in Paris, an international climate agreement aimed at reducing serious emissions of greenhouse gases.

This global agreement should pave the way towards a low-carbon essential element for the immediate future given that the use of fossil fuels is currently the dominant factor in the ecological footprint.

Negotiations important as what is being discussed in the United Nations to indicate the Goals of Sustainable Development that will characterize the global development agenda for the next fifteen years and that will be approved in 2015 were key to creating the correct opportunity for all countries in being able to sustain a world population will reach 9.6 billion in 2050, succeeding the same time to protect natural systems.

The report comes after the publication of the three volumes of the new report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in late October that the Synthesis Report will present its report and after the Climate Summit wanted by the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon at the opening of the last UN General Assembly.

It is now clear to all – says WWF – that climate change is already affecting the delicate dynamic balance of the state of health of the planet, in some way, has characterized the last 10,000 years in which humanity has reached the level of present civilization with a population that has exceeded 7.2 billion.
