TomTom launches Bandit, the cam action that challenges GoPro – International Business Times Italian

TomTom is a name that has become virtually synonymous with “navigation”. The Dutch company has decided to diversify its range of products, entering the field of action cam with Bandit , a device aimed to “edit and share video easily and fast.” All at a competitive price after all, considering the quality.

The TomTom Bandit Action Camera is proposed as an alternative to GoPro , considered the points of reference in this area, and the attack with a 16 megapixel sensor that can shoot video in 4K. A resolution so high, however, could cause problems in terms of frames per second: the Bandit would capture video in fact just 15 fps, a figure that would make the film obtained sluggish. And that, for an action cam, is undesirable.

The ideal is to find a good compromise between resolution and frame rate: down to 2.7K can run at 30 fps, with Full HD you get to 60 fps, while accontendandosi 720p you can shoot 120 fps. The image quality is not however the only element of strength of TomTom Bandit Action Cam .

The device operates indeed with an integrated media server, which eliminates the need for download the video before you can edit . The camera can work in parallel with an app for smartphones (currently only available for iOS, but soon for Android), which obviously makes it very quick and easy sharing of movies.

“We used a simple but radical approach to solve the problem of editing,” says Slobodan Stanisic , technical director of TomTom. “With all the action is ca existing first need to download gigabytes of footage u a powerful computer, a process that can take a long time. So you have to find the highlights, put together a story and editing. We know that this often requires the hours, but not with the TomTom Bandit . We have created a camera in which the films are processed within the same device, making the editing process much easier and faster. “

Other technical features of the TomTom Bandit Action Camera include a battery of 1900 mAh rechargeable via USB 3.0, microSD lodging and motion sensors and GPS can automatically recognize and tag the most exciting moments in filming based speed, altitude, acceleration or gravitational heartbeat.

The TomTom Bandit Action Camera will disponbile from May on the official website of the company or from selected retailers at a price of 429 euro . In addition, in June will launch a wide range of accessories to enhance the user experience.
