Growing the renewable energy sector – TGCOM

– The survey of Legambiente: within a decade, in Italy, the number of municipalities in which it is installed at least one plant from renewable sources increased from 356 to 8,047. In other words, in every Italian city it is a source of clean energy. Good news for the environment and (potentially) also for employment.

Growth in the sector renewable energy

According to a study carried out by Legambiente, conducted with the Group collaboration Asja and Energy Services Manager (GSE), ours is the first country in the world for the solar incidence with respect to energy consumption: more than 11% in April 2015. In total, in 2014 renewables contributed to meeting the 38 , 2% of total electricity consumption (in 2005 we were at 15.4%) and 16% of final energy consumption (compared with 5.3% in 2005).

Some negative note is not lacking, unfortunately : the growth rates of the installations, for example, are lower than in the past for all types of energy (photovoltaic, wind …). Yet it would encourage further spread which seem appropriate.

“The development of renewable energy sources – Istat noted in his report The energy consumption of households , released last December – It is a goal of primary importance of energy and environmental policies national and European, especially the European Strategy for the promotion of a sustainable economic growth “and, as noted by Legambiente, for the creation of new jobs in the energy sector.

In 2013, the employed – directly and indirectly – the world was 6.5 million, according to a study of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena). An increase over the previous year, then: in 2012, in fact, were about 5.7 million. Overall in Europe were 1.2 million workers, most of whom are employed in Germany (371,000 employees) and Spain (116 000).

How are things in Italian? They could have gone better, some studies suggest. During his survey, for example, Irena did not take into account our country. Where, according to estimates of the GSE, the employed were about 190,000 in 2012. But that, according to a study by the National Council of Engineers in Italy, could – thanks to policies to support the sector – to grow, reaching 250 thousand people 2020.
