Google, algorithmic bombs on the White House – Computer Point

Rome – The visibility of a figure like that of the President of the United States inevitably thickens upon himself irony, criticism, unpleasant epithets: Google’s algorithms do not have the ability to select the opinions of Web citizens, and to consider only what is diplomatically acceptable.

It is for this reason that the location of the White House on Google Maps, in recent days, was included among the search results for keywords like “Nigger House “,” Nigger King “,” niggahouse “classifications assigned to the placeholder on the map by the words racist numerous netizens. The outrage in the news, they have identified several occurrences of the problem has prompted Google to investigate the matter thoroughly and Mountain View has now announced that it has prepared a solution.

Reiterating his apology, Google offered some details of the mechanism that originated the embarrassing result of research: “some offensive keywords gave back unexpected results on maps because people have used the same offensive in online discussions associated with these places.” Google seems to suggest that this was not the result of a campaign of systematic bombing developed with SEO tricks, but has been determined by the trivial merry over users who over the years have continued to emphasize the fact that the White House has a black tenant. The popularity of this anomaly in the results, then, will have certainly helped fuel the mechanism: Google’s algorithms will ground the same comments also outraged that they associate the search keys to the result offered, only to consolidate it.

The solution of the Big G, however, should solve the problem: the system of ranking results for the maps will be aligned with that of the general search engine, updated to change the algorithm operated in 2007 to counter their operations Googlebombing .
As a partial consolation for Obama, the fact that his predecessor George W. Bush was for years associated with the key search “miserable failure”.
