The European satellite Proba-V was made from space map of global air travel . A lot of work: it was in fact to verify the 25 million locations over 15,000 aircraft. The probe of the European Space Agency (ESA) has been monitoring the Earth for two years to test a technology that could be used on all airliners for safer flights. With a mass of 140 kg, Proba-V is a mission launched exactly two years ago (May 7, 2013) with the main objective to control the growth of vegetation on board but also has a number of new technologies to be tested as it travels in orbit polar sun-synchronous at an altitude of 820 km. Every day Proba-V crosses the equator between 10,30 and 11 (local time) .u

ADS-B

Proba-V picks up signals from space sent by aircraft to ground stations providing information on the height of the aircraft, speed and position. This new reporting system ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast) will be required in the coming years for all aircraft that will fly over Europe. “We focused in particular on areas not covered by radar and where air traffic is less dense,” explained Toni Delovski, one of the leaders of the instrument can occur signals of ADS-B.
