The current CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, in 2009 he tried to save the life of Steve Jobs and offered as a donor for a liver transplant.
Excerpts from a new biopgrafia on jobs, which will be published in the US by March, offer insights into the thinking of iconoclastic Jobs at different stages of his life. The book, entitled “ Becoming Steve Jobs: The Evolution Of Reckless at Upstart ” was co-written by the Executive Director of Fast Company, Rick Tetzeli, and the journalist Brent Schlender, which the Washington Post was given in advance.
Perhaps the most striking anecdote contained in the biography covers the current head of the company, Tim Cook : was so shocked by the conditions of his mentor – Jobs died in 2011 of pancreatic cancer – that he was available to help improve the health of his boss giving him a part of his liver. According to the biography, Cook went to the home of Steve Jobs to give him the good news, and the authors report the answer concise and direct that got Cook: “I cut the legs, almost before the words come out out of my mouth” Cook said. “‘No,’ he said. ‘I’ll never leave to do so.’”.
“Someone who is selfish,” Cook continues, “is not responding well. I mean, take a guy who is dying , is very close to death because of his liver problem, and take someone healthy that offers a way out. I said, ‘Steve, I’m perfectly healthy, I checked. That’s the medical report. I can do this and I’m putting myself at risk, I’ll be fine. ‘ And he did not think to answer ‘Are you sure you want to do?’ or ‘I’ll think about.’, said a resounding ‘No’. ” and then Cook said that “Steve yelled at me only four or five times over the 13 years that I knew him, and this was one of those times.”
Other than is revealed in the biography regards management business in the life of Jobs. For example, when Jobs returned to Apple in 1997 after his exile from the company immediately took a liking – and vice versa – a new designer with the name of Jony Ive (the man who then continued to design the iPhone and other successful products). But soon after, he ‘killed’ two personal projects Ive, a digital pad called ‘eMate’ and a Macintosh for the 20th anniversary of the product, which also served as a television. The Mac TV Ive was a “flagship” write the co-authors. “It was a remarkable piece of design.”. But despite its elegance and apparent friendship with Jobs, the project died after having sold only 12,000 units.
In the biography ‘Becoming Steve Jobs’ are also revealed details on the friendship of Jobs in the last years of his life with the head of Disney Bob Iger. Jobs wanted Bob to join the Apple, but Iger has hesitated because of reasons of trustees. “We talked about the purchase of the company. We talked about buying Yahoo together.” reveal some excerpts of the book. Perhaps the greatest testimony of the friendship that existed between Jobs and Iger was the fact that the latter was one of the few guests authorized to enter the ‘secret lair’ designer Jony Ive.
The new book of Jobs is likely to be able to be a source of yet another movie about Jobs. As the movie Jobs of 2013 starring Ashton Kutcher was not particularly well-reviewed, a new project based on the biography written by Walter Isaacson is in production in 2011 with the involvement of director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), writer Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) and actor Michael Fassbender – the film will be released soon.
