Yahoo, between phone calls and password encryption – Computer Point

Rome – To contain the damage generated by password too intuitive and recycled for various services on the Net, relieving users from the exercise of memory, Yahoo has made available a function of time password, on request: the access code will be conveyed by phone.

Yahoo has simplified the two-factor authentication, eliminating the factor of memory: in favor of US users is the “On-demand passwords”, which provides sending a temporary access code that opens the way to login. Users that enable the function is required only vis sms code input received, generated and sent from Yahoo at each login attempt.

The solution proposed by Yahoo, rather than security, look at the practicality: the only effort required the user is to watch on your phone. Otherwise prying eyes could take possession of the code, and anyone who came into possession of the terminal could access the account with only a username and a simple request to obtain the password.

Portal in purple, however, does not give up work security: while meditating on solutions involving less risk, the two-factor authentication for access to email is available. Meanwhile bustles work on the browser plugin developed in partnership with Google and dedicated to end-to-end encryption of email-based OpenPGP.
The plug-in code is now available on GitHub, subjected to the careful eye of experts and bug hunters: Yahoo, explained the Chief Information Security Office Alex Stamos, plans to implement it within the end of the year. The aim is to provide users with a very simple solution to put their communications safe prying eye of state and market: Yahoo, who for months is wielding words and technologies against the claims of tecnocontrollo authorities, in the past has not could oppose the silent monitoring by the NSA and GCHQ, able to intercept the data at the level of its dorsal private.
