The numbers are staggering and confirm the great battle that every year we fight between Apple and Samsung. That of 2014 seems to have been won by Apple vice, with nearly 2 million units more than in the main South Korean rival. The credit is the iPhone 6, released in September last year and true flying sales.
But the whole 2014 was, overall, a positive year in terms of purchases of smartphones, which recorded a surge of 28.4 percent over the previous year, with a billion and 200 million units sold. According to disclosure of Gartner, a leading company in the field of Information Technology, the global market for mobile pits in a fierce competition the two giants Apple and Samsung, especially through the many companies that control – like the Chinese Huawei or OnePlus. But Samsung is, in fact, to have suffered a heavy setback in the fourth quarter of 2014, with the loss of six points of market share. Obviously, to the benefit of the company founded by Steve Jobs.
But let’s get to the numbers: Samsung, despite the bad result of the year-end, it has primacy in the sale of mobile terminals, with 307.597 million specimens. Thanks to the iPhone 6, however, Apple has surpassed one million and 800 thousand units sales of the main rival (74.832 million against 73.032 million). The six lost market share from Samsung are represented by falling to 24.7 percent in the smartphone sector. If in 2013 the figures were telling another story (30.9 percent and 299 795 000 units), the largest number of sales in 2014 (307 million) is explained by the growth of subsidiaries such as Lenovo, Huawei and LG.
And it is Lenovo to stand in the third place, the last quarter of 2014, sales of mobile devices (6.6 percent). This keeps track of the most successful brand in the countries of expansion, the so-called BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China), than Indonesia.
For Roberta Cozza, director of research at Gartner, Samsung may face other competitors only “exclusive contents and services that ensure loyalty and differentiation in the long term.” The South Korean company, in fact, you can enjoy the good result of Android, which continues to be the best-selling operating system, thanks to the competitive prices it offers, with over one billion units, followed at a great distance from iOS (191 million) and Windows (35.1 million).
