– The battle of social networks shifts from character to video. After Periscope Twitter, Facebook responded with its Live platform. An app for celebrities and the super VIPs to send live their movies. But now the experiment expands and Facebook, after an upgrade of its infrastructure, is preparing to give the opportunity to make direct also to artists, journalists and politicians, in practice all users who have verified profiles and pages, marked with blue sticker .
Another possibility to bring together public figures with fans, players and voters that in the near future could change the world of information or election campaigns. And a challenge of the social network of Mark Zuckerberg in streaming pioneers as Periscope and meerkat.
The interaction with singers, actors, athletes, journalists, politicians and public figures, so-called “influencers”, is an important aspect of social media. Facebook is amplified by the firepower of the platform that has a half billion users worldwide. A first step in the interaction between users and VIPs, the social network has completed more than a year ago by launching the application Mentions that connects celebrities and fans, also in Italy, through their pages verified.
Then in August it boosted this app with the feature to stream called “Live.” Mentions Live today and widen not only to actors and singers but also to other public figures with the profile occurred as politicians, journalists and bloggers. Which will establish an immediate contact, in video, with their followers directly from their smartphone.

Streaming video has had over the past year an exponential spread precisely due to the latter two services. In particular Periscope that has reached 10 million users and continues to evolve: application owned by Twitter has recently added the ability to send filming also horizontally (in the “landscape” with the video that fits the screen when you rotate the phone) and it looks like that will land on the new version of Apple TV, launched two days ago in San Francisco.
The only drawback to live than other streaming platforms is the elitist character. If Periscope Meerkat and are more democratic and allow direct equally to all users, and Live Facebook Mentions reserve broadcasts only to public figures. Next step, once tried and tested, could be a further expansion of the service to all users. In an imaginary future, rather than writing a post or publish a selfie, maybe we can leave a comment directly on video and become part of a global average.
