Twitter against Instagram seeks to recovery: he wants to go over 140 characters – The Messenger

Soon the meaning of the expression ‘long as a tweet’ may no longer be the same. The social network would indeed planning to tear down the wall of 140 characters in the post, the main feature since the platform was launched in 2006.

A radical change with respect to the origin, needed to win many users as possible and try to get closer to the big social networks like Facebook which has nearly a billion and a half.

The turning point would be well seen even by Jack Dorsey, one of the founders of the company, covering the interim CEO. Rumor Site American Re / Code, Twitter would therefore preparing a new product that can overcome the 140 characters. It limit already crossed in recent months by two internal functions of micro-blogging: retweets with comments and direct messages, those that are exchanged privately between users and which are indicated by the sachet. And there are applications like OneShot and TwitLonger that allow you to get around the limit, but they are tools that lead outside of the platform.

The company has great need for a revival, not only economic, but also Popularity: July users were at an altitude of 316 million, far from the numbers of Facebook and Instagram even those who a few days ago has reached 400 million active users per month. One of the most successful moves in recent months was the purchase of the app for video streaming Periscope but evidently failed at the time to drag more subscribers.

According to the Re / Code, there are no more details on this new product of Twitter that would remove the stake of 140 characters, or there are no official comment from the company. For years, however, it has developed a debate on the opportunities that exceeding this limit could give a boost to users and advertising. While analysts have long argued that the problems of the social network are always the same, that the confusion and lack of access to the flow of tweets. The challenge of the next number one of Twitter will be precisely to make the platform easier to use.

To bring this change might just be Jack Dorsey. After the company he co-founded has turned his back in 2008, as did Apple with Steve Jobs, Dorsey seems to start the reappointment as CEO. The role has been vacant since last July 1, that is, from the scene of Dick Costolo, fell under pressure from Wall Street.
