Legambiente, Venice risks being submerged by waste – VEB

It is certainly not a pretty sight that to which the tourists must be present, while admiring the lagoon: unfortunately in the lagoon, as well as gondolas , float even more waste to pollute one of the most beautiful in the world.

The warning Legambiente that part of the campaign Do not Waste Venice, she has seen how the canals of the Giudecca were collected over five hundred waste floating in seven kilometers, on average one every thirteen meters.

Going into detail the first results of the campaign, the liquid containers account for over 25% of the total waste collected; also prevalent fragments of plastic and polystyrene (16%) and the parts of packagings (12%). Butts, cigarette packs and lighters account for 9% of the objects found, while bags of garbage, full and empty, amounted to 6% of the total.

Of course, they speak for Legambiente, some of this junk is generated directly on site, and then is due to the bad habit of many thrown overboard plastic bottles but also cigarettes, but still a good part of the garbage is transported by currents and therefore it is waste material which dates from the Adriatic ee stops, clearly, in the lagoon.

Now we have to see what measures will be taken in this regard.
