The Russian cargo spacecraft Progress M-27M has disintegrated completely re-entering the atmosphere Earth. The remains have crashed into the Pacific Ocean at 4.04 hours Italian. This was announced by the Russian space agency Roscomos according to reports from the network Russia Today. The Progress was launched on April 28 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan with a cargo of 2.5 tons of supplies to the International Space Station (ISS) but the engagement had failed and the Russians had lost control of the vehicle shortly after launch .
The ISS astronauts will return a month later
Due to the failed launch of the Progress M-27M cargo, astronauts currently on the International Space Station, including Samantha Cristoforetti, return to earth almost a month later, on June 11 instead of May 14.
Small pieces in the ocean
Most of the structure the cargo should have destroyed on impact with the atmosphere, but small pieces may be intact and be precipitated into the ocean. “Only a very small part of the elements of the structure could reach the Earth’s surface,” stressed Roscomos in a statement. Russia sent in total 62 Progress spacecraft to the space station, and only two were unsuccessful. Since 1978 they were built several versions of the spacecraft, to support the various space stations, from Salyut 6 Salyut 7 to Mir. All the capsules were designed to destroy the contact with the earth’s atmosphere.
