The idea rained literally out “tree” – explains Russ Lester, owner of the farm ‘Dixon Ridge farms’ in Sacramento in California – it was relaunched by Yale climate connections online as one of the solutions that, thanks to the transformation of waste into energy, can help counteract changes climate because “solutions may be all around us.”
The ‘Dixon Ridge farms’ was already a model for saving water but the ‘drying of nuts, before going on the market, requiring a lot of energy. So Lester has decided to employ a byproduct of walnut that had in abundance: the shell, which proved to be “a good source of energy” for “renewable electricity and heat.”
Thanks to a generator ‘ bio-max ‘transforms walnut shells in biogas clean. Today the farm produces “more energy than it needs and sell excess electricity to the grid.”
The heat of the oven is used to dry the nuts collected, and the deviation of the shells can be sold or used as fertilizer for new trees that once grew in turn contribute to absorb CO2.
