Smartphone, Android grow steps to Apple in the US – PianetaCellulare.it

According to a new report from Kantar Worldpanel , the phablets accounted for 21 percent of all smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2015 of the United States.

During the first quarter of 2014, estimates indicate that phablets accounted for only 6 percent of all smartphone sales in the US, which means that the market for phablets almost quadrupled in just one year. Although the term is not associated with specific devices, any smartphone with a screen of 5.5 inches or greater is considered a phablet.

How many can imagine, the Apple iPhone is one of the 6 Plus main factors that influenced the market positively phablets. The company estimates that the iPhone 6 Plus represents about 44 percent of all phablets sold in the US during the first quarter of this year. By correlating these numbers, the iPhone 6 Plus should represent approximately 9.24 percent of all smartphones sold in the US between January and March 2015.

In general, the market is phablets growing , and although this type of smartphones is gaining traction, this does not mean that buyers of smartphones are no longer interested in devices with screen sizes smaller. The search for Kantar shows that 43 percent of iPhone customers and 47 percent of customers of Android smartphone cite the size of the screen as the main reason for buying a particular smartphone.

the same report also claims that Apple has been the most successful producer in the smartphone market with three of the four major US carriers. AT & T is estimated that the iPhone which sold represent 59 percent of all smartphone sales during Q1 2015, with the percentage that falls a bit ‘to 50 percent for the carrier Sprint, and down again to 42 percent for Verizon. Samsung, Apple’s main rival in the smartphone market, has won the customers of T-Mobile, with a share of 42 percent during the quarter in question.

Another report from Kantar shows that about one-third of sales iPhone / iPad users far from from an Android in the 5 major European markets. In the US, however, it appears that the conversion from Android to Apple is not so common. This report shows that only 11.4 percent of new iPhone owners have gone to Android in the US, and this percentage stood at 14.6 percent a year ago. In addition, only 5.9 percent of new Android smartphone owners have gone from iPhone in the first quarter of 2015, the percentage decreased from 9.8 percent in Q1 2014.
