– The cement has erased nearly 20% of the Italian coastline, ie more than 500 square kilometers: the equivalent of the entire Sardinian coast. This was revealed by the report in 2015 on land use spread by the Institute for the Protection and Environmental Research (Ispra), according to which they were also wiped out 34 thousand hectares in protected areas, 9% of the areas in danger hydraulic and 5% of the banks of rivers and lakes.

These data also show that in 2014 Italy has “sacrificed” a portion of its territory further: estimates lead to 7%, from 6.9% in 2013, the ground directly waterproofed (the 158% more than in years’ 50), while over 50% of the land, even if not directly involved, suffers impacts.

Among the areas to flood risk it is instead of Emilia Romagna, with over 100,000 hectares, holds the record in terms of area.
