Goodbye to Masaya Nakamura, the father of Pac-Man – The Republic

And he died at 91 years of age the entrepreneur japanese Masaya Nakamura, the “father” of the famous video game Pac-Man, that was popular in the Eighties. This was announced by the group Bandai-Namco, and said that the death took place on January 22 last year.

Nakamura had founded in 1955 his company, which later became the Namco, who in 2005 merged with the japanese giant of the games Bandai. In 1980 he launched Pac-Man, conceived by the author of the game Tohru Iwatani, who gave life to the small yellow ball eater of dots, and fruit, fleeing from the ghosts.

Nakamura chose the word ‘Cap’ to represent the ‘crunch’ of Pac-Man for its prey. Pac-Man came out on the market at a time when there were few video games competitors, from Space Invaders, but it is estimated that it has been played over ten billion times, becoming an icon of popular culture.
