Research conducted by the American Chemical Society was published in the journal Acs Sustainable Chemistry & amp; Engineering .
The aim of the scientists was to find a replacement ecological chemicals commonly used to separate and absorb the oil from the water, which often have a high impact on the environment.
The US researchers factored soy lecithin , a surfactant used vegetable in the food, in its lipid components, and in laboratory tests these molecules have proven very effective in the “division” crude oil into smaller particles that are easier to absorb and remove from the water.
According to the research data, in fact, the use of the dispersant based on soya lecithin produces better results than two solvents currently used that clean up oil spills releasing toxic substances into the environment.
