Apple challenge Spotify: ready to launch a music service … – The Messenger

The “New York Times” confirms the rumors that circulated on the net for some months: Apple is preparing a new version of the subscription service Beats to stream music. It’s open challenge to Spotify, which holds the scepter in this area.

The official launch date yet but it seems that there will be later this year; might already be available with the next update of iOS, Apple’s operating system.

The project would be working, according to the New York newspaper, Trent Reznor, the group Nine Inch Nails, and Jimmy Iovine, co-founder Beats. The Cupertino giant, therefore, seeks to focus on an area of trade where it is still weak: music. iTunes, in fact, is not so far managed to stand out among the many competitors that over time have been joined.

It also appears that Apple is entering into exclusive agreements with record companies for the exit some albums, as well as a general improvement of iTunes Radio. This commitment is further confirmed in the hall in the team of Zane Lowe, former DJ on BBC Radio 1. The idea is to direct iTunes to regional markets, making it almost a traditional radio station. It is expected that the new service retains many of the features of Beat Music; total darkness on the name.

As for the price side, Apple has failed to impose on record its initial proposal (7 dollars and 99 cents), a figure that would have undoubtedly benefited, being lower than the competitor Spotify and others. In the end, you will go on the classics $ 9.99 per month but is excluded a free trial. Trent Reznor (singer, composer and producer), frontman of Nine Inch Nails and the former head office of creative Beats before Apple to acquire, is playing, as reported by the NYT, “an important role” in the project. Jimmy Iovine, co-founder of Beats, care instead the promotion of the service, to make sure the output of some exclusive album. It is not the first time, for that matter, who is dealing with: in the past Iovine was able to conclude exclusive contracts with individual artists for the release of their songs on iTunes.

The creature of Steve Jobs is also working on other projects, including a service for streaming of television programs and a new Apple TV.
