Not everyone likes to spread their images on social networks, or, worse, discover that a photograph that portrays has become “viral” (without our knowledge). So, a Dutch company — the AVG Innovation Labs — has invented a system that allows you to dim automatically, the face of a person when an image is posted online without his consent and defend her privacy. As he tells Fortune, the people must wear the sticker or the pin that says “Do not snap” (No shots).
A software is then able to recognize a code, and erase the face of the person if the picture was posted via the web. To encourage the spread, the software “Do not snap” is available for free download. There is still, however, a plan for the commercial development of the program.
The right to privacy in public (that doesn’t exist yet)
“The simplest example is that of children to the festivities: the adults know that they can be photographed, the little ones are out of control,” said Maurice McGinley, director of design at the AVG Innovation Labs, at Business Insider. However, McGinley, highlights how it is not only a question of privacy, but also education: “I Think it is rude to share the image of people who do not want to be shooting in public. There is no right to privacy in public, but it is right to respect the opinions of the people.” Also if it is possible to download the code for “Do Not Snap”, don’t expect to see him on Snapchat or Facebook in the coming months. Because, at the moment, there are no plans for integration in commercial products, or on social networks. “I hope — he concludes — that the idea can at least start a debate on the subject. Technology and identity are becoming essential for operating in our civil life, almost such as paying taxes or voting”.
