Samsung has started the development of OLED display flexible for several years, but now seems the time to bring them on the market. Some industry experts speculate that the first smartphone folding (code-named Project Valley) of the Korean manufacturer will be announced in the second half of 2017. A further clue is represented by a recent patent that describes the characteristics of the device.
The first news about Project Valley date back over a year ago. In different patent applications filed at the USPTO had been included rough drawings of the smartphone, while now you can see the aspect that is likely to have the final version. In particular, the render shows the detail of the hinge, similar to that of the Surface Book, which allows you to fold the device. A button allows you to open your smartphone and take advantage of the OLED panel is flexible and covers the frontal part. The following video posted on YouTube about three years ago, provides an idea of the operation.
The Galaxy X (or at least a prototype) could be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona. Analysts predict, however, the arrival on the market in the second half of the year, as the mass-production of OLED panels-flexible sixth generation will not begin before the third quarter of 2017.
Samsung is expected to create up to 10 million screens per month. Given that the smartphone foldable will be a niche product, a similar quantity is definitely sufficient, at least for the first stage of marketing.
