The first PC maker in the world has the public face of Ashton Kutcher. The American actor is not only the spokesperson for Lenovo, but the Chinese company officially holds the role of “product engineer”: with his passion for technology has contributed to the development of new products launched in London yesterday.

The tablet

It is called Yoga, like the previous series, which give rise also to the design, which resembles a block notes open and folded on itself. Yoga 2 has a cylindrical base along the long side, to keep it tilted when it is laid on a table for writing, but also allows you to hold it comfortably with one hand, or keep it up to see a movie or a TV show. And there’s even a hook to hang it on the wall. The two tablets are available in both Android and Windows, version 8 or 10 inches: have Intel Atom processor, stereo speakers and a good battery life, thanks to the powerful cylindrical battery. The model, however, is more curious Yoga 2 Pro: Android operating system, 13-inch display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels QuadHD, subwoofer and even a built-in projector for viewing movies and cinema-like images on the walls of the house. “Our idea was to create the best tablet in the market,” says Kutcher. “To do that, we thought about how users use the tablet and what they need for an optimal experience. The YOGA Tablet 2 Pro has the best sound quality, a camera and an exceptionally bright display, a new mode of operation, a projector and a top of the line processor. ” And ambitions are high: Lenovo aims to sell 100 million tablets in the next year.

The market

On the screen, perhaps unknowingly Kutcher remembers Steve Jobs, or rather the character of Steve Jobs in the film that played a couple of years ago. Some quirk, some emphatic accent in his voice, perhaps he has left from that experience, but in reality the strategy of Lenovo has nothing in common with Apple. Jobs had declared the PCs on the road to decline as early as four years ago, explaining that desktops and laptops would continue to exist, but that it was started in the post-PC era, in which smartphones and tablets have replaced the computer in everyone’s life days. “I think you’re reaching a balance – notes Gianfranco Lanci, Chief Operating Officer of Lenovo, the number two Italian company that is Chinese but has a management from around the world. “For a while we thought it was possible to replace a pc with a tablet, because it costs less. Today, however, users have found that these devices can not do everything: they are perfect for consuming content, but not to generate them; also write an email it is not easy. ” The world market for tablet is in decline in recent months, while the decline in each decade of the computer slows down, albeit slightly.

The computer

Lenovo has 20 percent of the world market of computers. But how do you see the future of the pc? “There is still room for the computer, provided you have an idea,” he says Lanci. “The desktop changes its skin, it becomes all-in-one with built-in monitor or shrinks until it turns into a little box. The box once perhaps endure in some company, maybe the fans will still use video games that can ride inside graphics cards very powerful. ” The rest of the changing face very quickly. The laptop is no longer what it once was: the models are multiplied, the design of experiments grow. Lenovo covers 50 percent of the global market for convertible pc, and London presented a computer powerful and ultra-thin (12.8 mm) that bends in a thousand different ways thanks to a hinge ‘watch strap’; software allows you to use it as a tablet, such as laptop or even on vertical surfaces by automatically changing the screen orientation. Yoga 3 Pro has an ultra high-definition 13.3-inch and no internal fan.

Expand

Lanci left Acer a few years ago, where he had arrived to the role of CEO. “Conflicts of opinion with the board of directors,” he says. “I was of the opinion that it was necessary to focus more on mobile devices.” Now Lenovo, which in a few years has grown from a small manufacturer in eastern technological power planetary, bought the first consumer computer, then the server division of IBM, today is also ranked third in the top ten of smartphones. Since we are not in the market, but coming soon: they could also be sold as Motorola, as the Chinese have bought a few months ago the historic company from Google.
