Maker Faire Rome, the robot butler to 3D printers: a … – The Messenger

For the second time, Rome was transformed into a city of innovation. From October 3 to 5, in fact, the Auditorium Parco della Musica hosted the second edition of Maker Faire.
It is the European edition of the fair of inventors and craftsmen of the future. Between robots, drones and 3D printers, the spaces of the Auditorium became a village never seen before in Italy: more than 70 thousand square meters, in which innovators from around the world have been able to present 600 inventions. To discover the more than 90,000 visitors arrived in Rome.

Experiment and sharing are the two key words of the three days when even university students have exhibited their creations. For the second year the company has reconfirmed INTEL “main sponsor” of the event, and offered a preview of its new products.

Many guests of the Maker Faire, as the artist cyborg Neil Harbisson and Glenn Green, thoracic surgeon who implanted a trachea printed in 3D to a newborn patient.

Among the 600 inventions presented, there was Adam, the robot butler, CubeMate, a cube that shows the status mood and MESSI, a real coach can monitor the performance of a football team and analyze the techniques of the game. And then again debates, meetings and conferences on the future closer.

Turning to the stands Auditorium, adults have learned how to build a bike for children that changes based on age, thanks to the kit created the Laboratory Design Factory Sapienza University of Rome, and have discovered how a modular belt can be transformed into an interactive game, like the one created by the students of the Polytechnic of Turin. Among explanations and games, visitors also attended over 500 live sessions created by a band formed entirely by robot musicians. And the store of Arduino, the open source electronic board, thousands of “kit maker” were sold.

50 years since the invention of the first personal computer in history, the Olivetti Programma 101, the Make Foundation in Italy has set up an exhibition-installation housed in the Foyer of the Sala Sinopoli, to celebrate half a century of inventions.

At the Maker Faire also great space to those who dream of becoming a maker: for smaller is meant an area of ​​2000 square meters including 15 thousand children were able to participate in more than 360 laboratories and workshops to familiarize themselves with the world of electronics, robotics and digital creativity.
