At Maker Faire launched Genuine 101, a collaboration between Intel and Arduino
A form for maker easy to use, offering advanced features for the new generation innovators
Robot on stage to cut the ribbon for the opening of the third Maker Faire in Rome, drones of every shape and size, 3D Printer world’s largest entrance of La Sapienza. But the strongest signal of the current change is enclosed in a card 7 x 5 cm: The Genuine 101, a collaboration between Intel Corporation and Arduino.cc.
This is the first collaboration between the open source hardware movement, launched by Massimo Banzi now about ten years ago, and a giant hi-tech. A tangible sign that the movement makers, from curious phenomenon and niche, has turned into a reality in a position to attract the attention of major international players . The official announcement of the partnership, was done by the Roman stage by Joshua Walden, Senior Vice President, General Manager, New Technology Group Intel Corporation: “Earlier this year we introduced the Intel Curie, small and with great power , perfect for the maker community. Today ufficializziamo collaboration with Arduino: our processor will be inside of the card 101 Genuine. ”
The card is useful for learning, for the maker beginners and learning environments. In addition to being easy to use, Genuine 101 is perfect for prototyping technology products that connect and process data, thanks to the potential of the Intel module Curie. The card enriches the series electronic platforms open-source Arduino and will benefit from a broad ecosystem of components and a programming environment software, which facilitates the creation of interactive projects.
“We will work together for two years – says Massimo Banzi, co-founder and CEO of Arduino.cc -. For us it is a great opportunity. Given the potential in the field of education, this partnership will allow us to rapidly grow the educational program of Physical Computing, Creative Technologies for the Classrooms (CTC), currently active in 300 schools around the world. The goal is to work with teachers and create a new class of trainers, able to propose a new way of teaching technology. ”
A perfect harmony on the formation, as pointed out by Joshua Walden: “Intel is working closely with the Arduino to bring the CTC program in schools around the world in the coming years.”
The board, under the name of Arduino 101 in the United States and Genuine 101 in the rest of the world, s arà on the market in the first quarter of 2016, at the suggested retail price about $ 30 (about EUR 27) .
