There is swell in the world of browsers. In the endless struggle to conquer the market – with Google since it launched Chrome has worked for a very solid leadership – in recent years there has been a slow decline of Internet Explorer. What years ago was the browser par excellence, has suffered passively the advent of software lighter and faster. And it is no coincidence that Microsoft itself has decided to retire the old Explorer, associating the launch of Windows 10 the new Edge. But it is here that comes the fact.

As is often the case now, the big names are trying to exploit their full firepower to accelerate the deployment of a new product. He did it for years with the Google Plus social network, associating it to YouTube in order to increase the number of users. An experiment anyway bankruptcy, given the fate of the company in Mountain View. This time Microsoft is to force the hand, arousing discontent of competitors. With Windows 10, in fact, and his NADELLA we have effectively “forced” to use Edge, making it the default browser even if the user was using before the upgrade another. A move that did turn up their noses at those of Mozilla, so much so that the CEO Chris Beard wrote an open letter to its Nadella to express his discontent. According to Beard, in essence, Microsoft wants to impose (again) its dominance in terms of web browser. A story reminiscent of Netscape, Internet Explorer competitor a few years ago. How it ended is history.

By the way, today the question is quite different because different is the concept of browser, not easier navigation software but container of information and executor of applications. Indeed Beard, in his letter, speaks of “Internet experience” rather than just browsers. Mozilla, in fact, had already written to Microsoft in recent months, as they left the beta versions of Windows 10, because the change had appeared browser right now a lot more convoluted than previous versions. Concerns that the offices of Redmond seems not to have had any effect. Even for this right from Mozilla they have released a video and a post explaining how to enter the settings of Windows 10 and change the default browser (here all instructions)

The letter to Beard Nadella is a first step . If this story will end up in the courts for yet another legal battle on the competition is too early to say.
