Twitter goes beyond the 140 characters: attachments will not affect most on the edge of the post – The Gazzettino

After many rumors, the official confirmation. Twitter breaks the old limit of 140 characters, a road groped for the relaunch of the platform that still does not convince Wall Street. In the coming months the twittering get longer due to a ‘trick: will no longer be included in the count of characters photos, videos and user name. And so there will be more space for text users. “One of our biggest priorities is to make it easier and faster,” says Jack Dorsey, managing director and founder of the company. A few hours before the Facebook rival launched video streaming non-stop, a new opportunity for the media. Twitter has turned 10 in March, a birthday a little bitter.

The company twittering closed the first quarter of 2016 with a red $ 80 million (although about half last year), revenues rose 36% but below analysts’ expectations. And struggling to increase active users: they are at an altitude of 310 million, a slight increase compared to 305 million last quarter of 2015 but a far cry from those of Facebook, Instagram and chat like WhatsApp, grew exponentially. The change today comes after the announcement of the new timeline, which allows users to follow the information no longer in chronological order, but according to an algorithm that takes into account the interests and the importance of individual tweets. “We are not giving up the idea that Twitter alive the moment. The brevity, the speed and the ability to speak are for us priority. We are always looking for ways that they can make even more expressive tweets and allow people to say exactly what they want, ‘says Jack Dorsey. In January, they had spread rumors that the microblogging would give more space to individual tweets which would have led to even up to 10 thousand characters, while the limit of 140 characters has already been removed from Twitter for private messages last August. Launched initially as a simple text, the ‘tweet’ have evolved over the past decade to include photos, videos, animated Gif, surveys and quotes, all added characters who stole the fateful count of 140.

Now therefore, no attachments will impact more on this limit and there will be more room for text. Users also can retwittare and cite their tweets, giving new life to the chirps made in the past and adding new comment. Finally, every tweet that starts with a quotation from a another user will henceforth visible to all ‘followers’ of an account. The novelty, the company said, will be available “in the coming months.” In the hours before the announcement the historic rival of Twitter, in a sort of a distance race, broke down the time limit of the live video. Facebook Live, so you call the function, passing the 90 minutes to the ‘non-stop’: will allow users and especially to media and broadcasters to transmit streaming video on the social network through smartphones and tablets. Thus opening new avenues for the transmission of sporting events, journalistic and entertainment.
