Twitter, Jack Dorsey appointed CEO after Costolo – PianetaCellulare.it

The co-founder of Twitter Jack Dorsey has been appointed CEO of the social network on Sept. 30, according to a publication of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The same with a chirping Dorsey then confirmed his return to Twitter.

The decision was made after three months in which Twitter has not had a permanent CEO after the departure of Dick Costolo in the role assumed for years. For Dorsey is a return to Twitter after getting fired from Twitter seven years ago, handing the reins to CEO Dick Costolo who then resigned in June this year.

Dorsey was then confirmed as CEO permanently , having held the same position for about three months after the resignation of Dick Costolo.

Dorsey, 38, is not your typical big company executive . After creating Twitter, has cultivated the image of a genius-hippie-artist and is now seen as a visionary thinker and innovative, like the co-founder of Apple Steve Jobs and co-founder of Tesla’s Elon Musk.

Dorsey now an important task : revive Twitter after the recent months have seen the social network falter. Dorsey must find new ways to retain existing users, more to attract new users and convince investors that the twittering will last much longer.

Dorsey agreed to remain fixed Twitter CEO unwilling to abandon the post of Managing Director of the startup Square, electronic payments company that he founded six years ago and next to the stock market.

“My goal is to build teams that move quickly and learn faster” He said Dorsey in a tweet. “In the last three months we have increased our speed and urgency in both companies.”

In the middle of June, Twitter announced that its CEO Dick Costolo would no longer serve as CEO of the company since July.

After a bit ‘of pressure from shareholders, who have called on the social network to do something to grow the user base and traffic in the platform, Twitter said to be looking for a CEO who takes a “full-time commitment” to better serve the microblogging service.

The Board then it announced that it has established a search committee and hired the executive search firm Spencer Stuart to find the replacement for the outgoing CEO Dick Costolo. The council said it would seek candidates both inside and outside of Twitter, and that it would serve the necessary time to find the right person.

When it was announced that President and co-founder of Twitter Jack Dorsey would take the reins of the company as a interim CEO on July 1, there was already speculation that he could be the one to become the new Twitter CEO on a permanent basis – a scenario that the same Dorsey refused to comment to the media.

Peter Currie, lead independent director of Twitter and chairman of the search committee for the new CEO, said at the council to give his “utmost confidence” with the ability to Dorsey to lead the company as we tried a new CEO. Twitter, Currie said in a statement, was looking for “a leader with the ability to help Twitter to capitalize fully on its unique platform for the benefit of users, advertisers and employees, and maximize shareholder value.”

Costolo announced officially in mid-June that it intends to step down after months of speculation as the company has repeatedly disappointed investors on Wall Street with its financial performance. In its latest quarterly, the company recorded a turnover of 436 million dollars, less than analysts had estimated – 457 million dollars. The profit of Twitter in the first quarter of 2015 was 7 cents per share. Analysts had estimated 5 cents per share. The social network has little more than 300 million monthly active users, about what analysts had estimated, up from 288 million users at the end of the quarter that ended in 2014.

Analysts believe that the ‘company has been unable to build new products and attract new users. However, in recent months Twitter has introduced several innovations: the content filter harassing, the list of the best Tweet Highlights, blacklists shared, conversations in order, autoplay videos, removed the limit of 140 characters in the Direct Messages, product pages Opening up the world of online shopping. Twitter is also working on a container of tweets live events.
