‘officially it started the countdown for one of the most anticipated events of the year. From Oct. 16 to 18 in the third edition of the European Maker Faire, the largest fair of innovation in the world along with those of San Francisco and New York, to be held at Sapienza University of Rome, this year will also feature a huge aviary of about 300 square meters wide and 22 meters high, where the protagonists are the drones with their performance.
Along with Sugarmusic, music publisher and record label of the most renowned internationally, Music Maker will be made an area specially dedicated to music makers and their experiments. Interactive workshops, creation of musical instruments in self-production based on the Arduino platform and live performances will be an added attraction for the public of the event.
A key role will also have the boys selected from over a hundred high schools ( Technical Institutes and ITS) that participated in the Call for Schools. Thirty projects selected and their stand – almost twice the space of last year – made available to the school to bring out the ability of creativity and talent of our students.
Along with the schools will also be present the most prestigious Italian universities (apart from Sapienza University of Rome, Roma Tre University, the University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome, Milan Polytechnic, the University Iuav of Venice and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia) and major research institutions such as INFN, INGV and IIT that will lead to the event some of their most innovative and interesting. The protagonists of the event will continue to be however, the innovative makers and artisans (81 selected out of over 200 applications arrive) who with their talent, inventiveness and creativity will lead to the Maker Faire the most innovative projects, showing the capabilities of the new Italian manufacture.
And to give them even more space and value, the curators of the event – Massimo Banzi, Arduino co-founder and Riccardo Luna, Digital Champion Italian, together with Stefano Micelli, director of the curatorial section artisans innovative schools, Professor Ca ‘Foscari – decided, for the year 2015, to build the itineraries so that the public can touch the evolution of a project from prototype to finished product, from the small maker and medium enterprise ready for the market, a process that enhances the “Made in Italy” and the entrepreneurial skills of the Italian.
The formula of the event sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and organized by its Special Agency Asset Chamber does not change and will be held, as usual, from Friday to Sunday.
It starts on October 16 morning with the Education Day, the traditional morning free dedicated exclusively to school groups (from 13 to o9) and that last year saw the participation of over 15 thousand students of elementary schools and secondary schools, from all over Italy. Starting from 14.00 the Maker Faire opens to the general public until Sunday, October 18 (times 10 to 18).
At the Maker Faire will find amazing inventions and new products made in Italy, beautiful and surprising ( 3D printed jewelry, bicycles smart kit make vinegar with Arduino, typefaces customized products, apparel music, the kennel home automation for our four-legged friends, the lamp that teaches the language, the interactive mirror with news, social networks and weather forecast).
In the now highly anticipated AREA KIDS – which this year will cover well 3 thousand square meters – curated by Codemotion, will develop a dense interactive program for young innovators from 5 to 16 years: workshops programming, guided by scientific animators, mini labs making and a “science corner” that will show how science can make a spectacle. The kids can actually implement their first robot, circuit or video game.
The big news of the Area KIDS 2015 will be “the Educational Islands” – seven stations open where there will be activities dedicated to teaching creative recycling and learning by doing, and FabLab area suitable for children. On Friday morning, the activities of the Area KIDS will become “Start codingMaker Faire Rome”, the biggest event ever organized in Europe for the Code Week, in which more than 2,500 boys move the first steps in coding.
It ‘also planned a large area FOOD & amp; Agriculture, with over 40 exhibitors in the pavilion: from innovation in the production of beer, the press of crepes in 3D, the robot making cocktails, the intelligent plug to track storing wine, through the vertical gardens , arriving at hydroponics. The area will also host an exhibition of small machines for the food processing as well as a space dedicated to demonstration activities and entertainment.
At the Faculty of Humanities, Maker Faire is hosting the exhibition self-produced, edited by ADI – Association for Industrial Design, in which products are exposed selected by yearbooks ADI Index 2013, 2014, 2015. The exhibition aims to create a first comparison between the world Maker and Design Culture, identifying the contribution autoproduzioni of innovation in industry, trade, services, training and research. Collaboration ADI to Maker Faire 2015 then extends parallel to the exhibition Design Index 2015, in which they are exposed objects and services of excellence, qualified by the decisive contribution of design, recently produced in Italy.
The Department of Physics University, however, become an open lab and you can participate in interesting and curious experiments with gyroscopes, magnets and electricity. The public will be accompanied by the wise guidance of researchers and students. “Wisdom” – said the Rector of the Roman, Eugenio Gaudio – is excited to share and accommodate all these innovative initiatives that stimulate, on the one hand the advancement of knowledge and scientific and technological culture and offer other opportunities to improve the society”. Science sustainable “is the leitmotif of the collaboration between Maker Faire and Rome Sapienza.
The future on stage to the Maker Faire, then, is one that comes from the desire to experience and share. It is an innovation that recognizes the value of scientific research from below, one of the inventors of the FabLab and passion. The Maker Faire want to give visibility to the energy of so many young people who pursue their own creative path and who want to share the outcome of their efforts with others.
Some of these extraordinary innovators become entrepreneurs, perhaps by developing ideas and prototypes that have developed for the Roman event; others will find work in companies where they can bring their energy and competence.
