“There’s some news for you.” The ringing of a notification on their short chat will not only announce the arrival of a message but also that of an article to read. A groped this new digital publishing road could be Messenger, Facebook’s messaging service properties. A path already taken by Snapchat, very popular chat among the very young, who has recently signed an agreement with the Wall Street Journal.
The rumor comes from Marketing Land and is part of the plan of Mark Zuckerberg’s company to make Messenger, who now has a package of 800 million users, a separate universe from social networks and includes more options. According to the site, Facebook would be working on software that allows developers to create a “chatbot”, ie a program that generates content automatically, within Messenger. And the first to test this novelty would own publishers. The service would work like this: users receive on Messenger notification of a news brief, a link leads to full article on the website of the newspaper. In addition to a new way to distribute news, the move opens new openings to the earnings on advertising. The official launch of the news about Messenger may be the next conference of the developers of social networks (F8) to be held in mid-April.
Last year, Facebook announced at F8 own expansion chat now housing more than 40 applications, allows online purchases, the exchange of money and even video calls like Skype. According to the rumors, we would already have a list of publishers ready to take advantage of the initiative since April, including Build. Moreover Facebook, which has become a gigantic kiosk, already has a base of close agreements with the press for the ‘Articles Instant service’. It is a kind of digital display that allows users to read articles in a magazine, multimedia and interactive form, directly within the social network. It is also active in Italy and after a running-in phase with some large groups, from mid-April will be available to all publishers regardless of size or nationality.
The idea of Facebook to distribute news via chat however, it is not very original. This is already driving Snapchat, the app will auto-delete messages very popular among the young. To have a privileged channel of communication with teenagers there are about twenty publishing companies including the Daily Mail and the Wall Street Journal. And the White House has landed on the application that counts 100 million active users per day and that Facebook has reached the video files: 8000000000 visas every day.
