That’s Maker Faire 2016 It starts October 14th – Metro

ROME. After the success of last year, Maker Faire is even bigger with Fiera di Roma who, for three days, will turn into a real innovation park with 6 pavilions at the complete disposal of makers and visitors for a total of over 100 thousand square meters. One of these, about 7 thousand square meters, will be entirely dedicated to conferences, seminars and workshops. Numbers and exceptional setting, then, for the largest European exhibition of innovation promoted by the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, organized by its Special Asset Company Room, and curated by Massimo Banzi, Arduino co-founder along with Riccardo Luna, Digital Italian Champion.

This year many innovations. It starts with the new “Call for Projects Big Bang”. A “call” addressed to all, makers, artists, visionaries to build the Maker not only in content but also in its most important attractions. It ‘s possible to put forward their own ideas that will be presented in the exhibition area of ​​the Fair to: 1) large projects; 2) projects with high interactivity and audience engagement; 3) preparation / visually compelling attractions for characterize the spaces of the event (pavilions, pathways, entrances and access areas etc.). 4) areas for interactive activities (runs, aviaries, stages, laboratories etc.); 5) exhibitions and thematic analysis. Proposals must be submitted by 31 March by completing a form available on the Web http://makers.makerfairerome.eu/bigbang.

On 16 March – in collaboration with the Ministry of Education – started the “Call 4 schools.” the initiative, which will run until May 20 next year, is intended for educational institutions according to national degree and belonging to EU countries. A qualified jury will select 55 projects (35 for secondary schools of the second degree, 5 for ITS and 15 educational institutes belonging to the European Union countries) among the most innovative, which will be hosted during the Maker Faire in a ‘area dedicated to schools. Participation is free and is scheduled to host, for each school, a teacher and two students. In 2015, 110 institutions participated in the call and were chosen 30 who, with their ideas and works, contributed to the huge success with the public in the halls reserved for them. The Maker Faire Rome considers, in fact, particularly important the contribution of the schools because it is thanks to the energy and creativity of our young people that we can point to the revival of Italian manufacture.

Then, as usual , there will be the wait “4 Call Makers” which last year registered a record number of over a thousand projects from 40 different countries. the “Call 4 Makers” 2016 will open on April 18 and closes on June 15. Innovators from around the world will have time and opportunity to prepare and submit their creations.

Among the possible ways to participate in the Maker Faire Rome, the call 2016 provides for: 1) the project exposure through the availability of a free stand; 2) public presentation of the project, with the setting up of a classroom arrangement or a stage; 3) workshop: in this case it will be possible to have a dedicated area available, always at no cost, for practical demonstrations with the active involvement of the visitors present.

A committee, coordinated by the exhibition curators , will evaluate and select the best projects received that will then have the right to a free appropriate space to exhibit their inventions. and another big news this year is the ROME Prize or an acknowledgment of 100 thousand euro that will be assigned best European maker project with high social impact.

Home Automation, re-use, drones and robots, 3D printing, digital manufacturing, industry 4.0, IoT – Internet of things, technology applied to transportation, to cooking, fashion, music are just some of the themes that Maker Faire Rome aspires to know and experience to the public.

Impressive space and attention devoted to food. The Future Food Institute (FFI), trusts dedicated to food and innovation will work as a partner with knowledge Maker Faire 2016, for the dissemination activities, design and production of content, coordination and management, and the Food Makers program. A synergy that will develop and consolidate even through dell’OffiCucina installation, a hybrid place between a kitchen and a workshop and developed for the occasion in kids version with special attention to the students of the schools, where you will constantly laboratories, fab lab, workshops and talks to experiment, innovate, learn and have fun with food.

Also new this year is “Waiting for Maker Faire 2016″ or a series of approaching events at the fair to be held in Italy and in Europe. Among them, the most important, is the European Maker week, an entire week of events makers, from 30 May to 5 June, the digital manufacturing , simultaneously across Europe, promoted by DG Connect the European Commission and carried out in collaboration with the Startup Europe. Two main objectives: to spread the culture makers by encouraging education for creativity and innovation, and create a virtuous circle between local authorities, the media and the main actors are alive and, at local and European level, the world of the makers. Milan, Lecce, Rome and Turin, the Italian stages of “Waiting for Maker Faire.”

There will be “The Big Hack ‘, the biggest hackathon Italian dedicated to innovation and the Internet of Things . the event, to be held on 8 and 9 October, is a great programming marathon in which participants are challenged to develop applications and projects on the different challenge that will range from safety, mobility to the food. The competition prize is aimed at developers, engineers, designers, startupper, students and maker.

It starts Friday, October 14 with the usual Educational Day, the free opening of the morning the first day dedicated to students of all levels, which last year saw over 16 thousand young people involved from all over Italy.
