Facebook will become the largest virtual cemetery in the world here when the dead will be more than the living – The Messenger

In the year 2098 Facebook will become the largest ‘virtual’ cemetery in the world as the number of deceased users will exceed that of the living. This is the prediction made by Hachem Sadikki, University statistician of Massachusetts, who has developed his theory based on two facts: on the one hand, the choice of the social networks to continue to refuse to automatically delete account users who has since died; on the other, given that the growth of the members of Facebook will soon start to slow down.

According to ‘Beyond Digital’ – a company that deals with ‘digital inheritance’ – are 970mila Facebook users who will die this year. In 2010 there were almost 386 thousand while in 2012 were 580 thousand.

At the moment the only way to cancel the account of a deceased person you need someone to do the log-in and choose to delete the profile. But (almost) no one delivers its data access to family or friends.
