The first pictures sent from New Horizon show that Pluto there … – euronews

Mountains of ice as high as 3500 meters – and therefore the presence of water-and a geologically active planet. These are the conclusions that can be drawn from the images that NASA’s New Horizon probe snapped as he made the overflight of Pluto at a speed of 14 kilometers per second.

“This shows topography so thorough that these mountains are made of ice. So even before the team that takes care of the compositions tell us that we were detected points on the crust that reveal RESENCE nitrogen and even before we see the presence of ice on Pluto for the first time, we can be sure that there is plenty of water, “said Alan Stern, one of the main proponents of the mission. In addition to Pluto, New Horizons images also sent two of its satellites, Hydra and Charon. The small moon Hydra, measuring 43 kilometers by 33, seems to be composed primarily of water ice. Charon, the largest satellite and near
Pluto, on the other hand a young surface, marked by craters and a deep canyon up to 9 km.
