Pluto mountains up to 3,500 meters: the first photos … – The Messenger

came the first close-up pictures of Pluto and its moons taken by NASA’s New Horizons probe during the flyby that yesterday saw the dwarf planet speeding at 14 kilometers per second. A
what emerges from the first stunning images captured by the probe, near the equator of Pluto are the newly formed high mountains up to 3,500 meters.

But Pluto is not the only star of the photo taken by New Horizons. Even two of its satellites, Hydra and Charon, have caught the attention of NASA engineers. The small moon Hydra, measuring 43 kilometers by 33, seems to be composed primarily of water ice. Charon, the largest satellite and near Pluto, on the other hand a young surface, marked by craters and a deep canyon up to 9 km.
