19:19 MILAN (Dow Jones) – In Italy more and more ‘electricity is produced with mini-fired power plants mainly from renewable sources: it is small and very small plants which make up over 30 000 MW, a quarter of the national total installed capacity. And ‘what emerges from the annual report on the monitoring of distributed generation published by the Authority’ for energy based on the latest available data, updated to 2012 Today in our country the ‘mini-power stations’ have reached 485,000, contributing to more than 19% of the total domestic production (about 57 terawatt-hours on a total of 299.3) and as many as 7 out of 10 using renewable sources (70%), with the sun which now covers 31%. From the report and numerous graphs and data confirms the trend of strong growth in mini-power stations the number of plants, installed capacity and gross production. Particularly evident and ‘the remarkable development of small size plants, mostly’ PV: in fact, over 99% of the plants monitored for a total of 482mila, and ‘very small in size with a capacity’ generation not exceeding 1 MW . Overall, the ‘micro-power’ have a capacity ‘production of 15,105 MW, representing 35.6% of total production (20.3 TWh) and almost exclusively use renewable sources (98%), predominantly solar (70% ) but also biomass, biogas and bioliquids. It should be noted that about 40% of the energy produced by distributed generation is self-consumed while the remainder is injected into the network or, in small part, used for auxiliary services of production. The Report and ‘was achieved by adopting for the first time the European definition of “distributed generation” 2 which includes all the “generation plants connected to the distribution system,” without power limits; in previous reports, however, the distributed generation was defined as the set of production facilities with capacity of less than 10 MVA. The new methodology confirms the trend of strong growth in recent years: in fact, the homogeneous comparison of the only class of systems with up to 10 MVA, shows an increase of almost 45% over the previous year with 150,000 new plants; the installed power and ‘increased by 5,600 MW (+ 31.2%) and production of 10,500 GWh (+ 35.9%), mainly for the development of new photovoltaic systems. In this scenario, assume particular importance in regulating to promote the integration of distributed generation in the electricity system and ensure safety, innovating mode ‘network management and systems and by promoting the development of network infrastructure, including smart grids. com / fch (end) AFX NEWS 1119 19 August 2014
