Archimede Solar Car 1.0, electric solar energy car covered with solar panels – PianetaCellulare.it

Friday, April 8 was opened on an electric car prototype with zero impact on the environment, called “ Archimede Solar Car 1.0 ” and a collaboration between non-profit organization, universities and private companies that Sicilian they have one goal: sustainable transport and reduction of harmful emissions.

Inaugurated in the presence of the Mayor of Catania Enzo Bianco and the director general of the University of Catania Federico Portuguese, the electric car Archimede Solar Car 1.0 is 4.5 meters long and covered with photovoltaic panels which gave it an ‘ energy independence potentially not limits.

The prototype Archimede is a electric vehicle powered completely from direct solar energy . The cells contained in the solar panels covering the upper part of the vehicle and convert the energy of sunlight into electrical energy which, by means of a hardware system, charging a battery pack with lithium-polymer technology to power the electric motor.

the body of the prototype is designed with three main objectives: to provide a wide top surface for the assembly of solar cells, while being lightweight and durable, resistant to shock and vibration.

the solar panel is the heart of the car , which provides the energy required to operate the prototype. The technology chosen uses monocrystalline silicon cells that guarantee, on average, a 18-19% efficiency, guaranteeing an area of 6 square meters (246 cells 156 x156), a power of about 1000W, with an operating voltage of 96 Vcc .

First solar-powered electric vehicle avowedly low cost , the prototype of the Archimedes solar Car 1.0 was presented during the proceedings of the conference entitled “solar Power for Automotive Application Sustainable Mobility “organized by the research center of the University of Catania Cutgana. The conference was opened by Rosario teachers Lanzafame (ordinary machines and energy systems) and John Signorelli (director of Cutgana) which was followed by the reports of Gianfranco Rizzo (University of Salerno), Antonio Di Natale (Director R & amp; D Enecom Power hf of Turin), Vincenzo Di Bella (President of Futurosolare non-profit organization) and Giangiacomo Minak (University of Bologna).

in the square of the university structure of the prototype it was also provided a technical demonstration on the road, broadcast live streaming on www.futurosolare.com site, where you can find all the details of the project that has taken shape from the idea of a team that, a few years ago, has been a boost association by the desire to make available to search their skills and experiences. These skills aimed at developing prototypes of alternative energy vehicles.

One of the aims of the project include the creation and dissemination of efficient mobility patterns rational and environmentally; the promotion of greater awareness about the topic of sustainable mobility and that even starting from choices and individual behavior, it is possible to improve the environment and promote wellness.

The association which is developing the Archimedes project It expects to deal with public and private entities, national and international, with which to interchange information in the renewable energy sector and possible applications. It also aims to raise awareness among local administrators to implement policies that promote sustainable mobility, upgrading infrastructure, eg through the cycle paths, the photovoltaic charging points along the same and information campaigns for operators in the sector and to the citizens.

the prototype Archimedes is designed to have a maximum dimension of 4500 mm vehicle length and 1800 mm in width, in a not made carbon body because of cost “prohibitive” but aluminum with cover kevlar so as to be able to increase the bending stiffness in the direction of the same. The property that has pushed to employ aluminum is the density equal to half of that of titanium and a third of that of steel. Aluminum is also not likely to rust and not weakens points affected by welding.

The suspension of the vehicle has been designed taking into account the use on paved roads : for the front suspension group has chosen to use a deforming quadrilateral system with the sides constituted by upper and lower swinging arms, the hub carrier, the frame to which are bound the oscillating arms and the shock absorber.

For the driving part are used two brushless “engines ” mounted in the rear, directly hub (hub motor). This type of electric motor with permanent magnets, unlike a brush motor, does not need electrical sliding contacts on the motor shaft in order to function. The switching of the current circulating in the windings is no longer performed mechanically but electronically so as to result in a lower mechanical resistance, eliminating the risk of formation of sparks with the increase of rotational speed.

“The electric car in solar energy made in Sicily is a real traveling workshop on wheels. ” He explained Professor. Lanzafame. “This project is proof that it is possible to satisfy the eco desire for mobility in urban areas through the photovoltaic conversion ‘on board’ Energie electricity needed for pulling the vehicle which also reaches an unlimited through the innovative braking recuperative “.
