BlackBerry Passport, review (with videoprova). It is big and … – Corriere della Sera

We tried to preview a few days for the new BlackBerry Passport (all the news told by Martina Pennisi, sent to London). It is the most original smartphone released recently, but before we talk about a step backwards.
BlackBerry has made a full, colossal, total hole in the water with the new generation of products based on BB10. For commercial reasons (price, distribution, marketing), time to market (delays on delays), app missing or deficient, sentiment of the overall market (that defies everything that is not Android or Apple). Not so much for the products themselves. If like us, you have got to use a little ‘- for example – the BB Z30 you can appreciate the stability, security, responsiveness of the operating system and the BlackBerry goodies like Hub, by far the best way to manage in a consistent manner throughout the personal messaging. With the ability to run Android app you’re putting a patch on physiological deficiencies of the store BlackBerry World.

Our videoprova – Pros and cons of the BlackBerry Passport :

The new CEO John Chen is committed – as he told us in January – in the difficult mission to reposition the company, embracing the sector Enterprise with more decision. Passport is a smarpthone dropped in contemporary and as such can not look to the consumer world. But the philosophy with which it has been thought consistent with the turn of Chen. The witty wordplay “ Wide Work ” is associated with the launch of the Passport summarizes the concepts of “work” and “off.” “Work” BB back to focus the primary use of the device on its activities to the office. As they have always been the “Crackberry” before attempting to run behind iPhone & amp; members with full touch devices in the series BB10. With “Wide” emphasizes the aspect that immediately catches the eye picking up the Passport: the monstrous, unprecedented, never seen this smartphone width of the shape (almost) square.

the physical keyboard 3-line is definitely “Wide” and as such needs a little ‘training to be used in a profitable way, even by the person who is (or was) used to the classic BlackBerry. Interesting aspect is that the keyboard is also touch: both to move through documents without having to remove your thumbs from the keyboard, or to activate the virtual keyboard (with numbers and symbols). All this is combined with the excellence of BB10 predictive keyboard: with a swipe upward selecting the suggestions of the system. There is a bit ‘, but then you can write really good pace even with long and complex texts.

“When we designed BlackBerry Passport, we have been guided by a simple but challenging – to overcome the limitations of traditional design and build a device that can radically change the way in which the business professional work and use their smartphone, “said John Chen. form feature of the Passport may scare the beginning (actually scares) but can attract attention and curiosity in a market where everyone is now much approved. And BlackBerry needs more than ever to get noticed. The dimensions are functional to the target audience: BB Passport slips perfectly into the pockets of a man’s jacket or a shirt. The hipster in t-shirt and tight jeans can safely look elsewhere. The female audience perhaps. Passport is designed for use with both hands. Once we are accustomed to is not uncomfortable as it may seem at first approach. The only obstacle is a weight more tablet smartphone: more than 190 grams, more than any other competitor. The screen is 4.5 inches but being perfectly square is appreciated when working on Office documents. Excellent quality, the definition (1,440 × 1,440 pixels, 453 dpi) and resistance (Gorilla Glass 3).

In optical productivity is appreciated autonomy . The battery is not removable but it is by far 3,450 mAh: we have “stressed” a lot of the Passport (with typical activities from BlackBerry but without sacrificing the Gps navigation and some short game session), but we arrived at the end of day with still a 30% of the battery. We were hoping for even better but here goes to the impacting multitasking “true” to BB10, with app also active in the background.

Excellent Specifications (3 GB Ram, 32 GB espandibli with micro Sd memory, processor Snapdragon 800): not that BB10 system needed it, since it runs smoothly even with hardware less accurate, but so will attract some attention from the maniacs of the technical specifications. We also appreciated the progress of BB 10.3 , the new release of the operating system. Multitasking is improved and the Android app running (almost all games included) without any problems. The store Amazon is pre-installed and supports the “native” BlackBerry World. Despite the square shape of the display, the app did not present any particular problems, with some rare exceptions graphics “deformed.”

BlackBerry Blend

BlackBerry Hub, now joins a good manager of voice commands (BB Assistant, facilitated by the four microphones, which provide high-quality telephone conversations) and the unpublished BlackBerry Blend . A new app that brings the messaging and content of Passport on computers and tablets. You can put the BB on your desk or in your bag and leave it at the same time receive on PC (or Mac or Android tablet) message notifications, respond to emails, BBM messages or send text messages, access to documents, calendar, and address book files. All via usb, wi-fi or mobile network. And all with the security that has always been the flagship of the BlackBerry. “Whether you need to access important work files while you’re on the move, whether you need to send emails and text messages from your tablet while you go to the office, BlackBerry Blend assures that all your important information is accessible in a safe, regardless of what device they’re using, “said Chen.

In short, Passport has all the requirements to carry a BlackBerry little ‘attention. Which then results in new customers is difficult to predict. The paradigm of “full touch” won and the patrol of nostalgic Qwerty keypad seems today more than very limited. The size and design (understatement …) “special” Passport can help to evaporate the interest that the device raises. But, as we have verified after a few days of use, you quickly get used to the shape and even appreciate the advantages of the original choice of Canadians. Given the technical specifications and materials used is not thinkable a particularly economical price (599 Euros, maybe more), but then the target is not that of 20 year old geeks that link last Chinese smartphone from 150-200 euro.
