How does Jarvis, the artificial intelligence of the house of Zuckerberg – Wired.it

The beauty of being Mark Zuckerberg is that if you have an idea on how it should be the home of the future, connected and cut to size in his features, in addition to architectural taste, you build it. The artificial intelligence system "Jarvis" is now known to the chronicles, but this time the Ceo of Facebook has told everyone how to proceed the creation of the system, from programming and development, based on which he spent 100 hours in the last 12 months.

"so Far, this year, I built a simple prototype artificial intelligence with which I can talk on the phone or through the computer, which is able to control various aspects of my house, including the lights, temperature, household appliances, the music and the safety devices which learns my tastes and my habits, that can learn new words and concepts, and that can also have fun Max", wrote Zuckerberg in a split "The prototype uses several techniques of artificial intelligence, including natural language processing, voice recognition, facial recognition, and learning reinforcement, [written in Python, PHP and Objective-C]".

The whole, however, is certainly not a simple affair. As he himself allows, study the system in his own home served to understand that the fronts of Artificial Intelligence is below of what you think, and on which there is still much to refine. One of the major issues articulated is that of the language, and the difficulty to train the Artificial Intelligence to the variations of the context: the same command means two different things if pronounced by two different people. If you ask an assistant to start the music, it would be necessary to specify in that room, or allow the system to understand that part of the house you are in. With the management of the music, for example, complicates everything: "There are too many artists, albums and songs to manage, for a system that works with key words". What Zuckerberg calls to Jarvis at the moment is "put some music", that the assistant selected according to his taste: the most that can happen is that is not in the mood appropriate, and at that point they will be asked to correct the shot, for example with "something lighter".

The manor features a facial recognition system, which took advantage of the long experience of the social network and brought it to the next level. At the door, Zuckerberg and family will have a range of cameras capable of understanding if the person who is playing is a friend and if it was already scheduled to meet (think that anxiety if someone forgot to enter it in the calendar). In case of affirmative answer, the door will automatically open, and Jarvis will inform the guests that Mark is in the house.

of course, after a year dedicated to the celebration of the bot, Zuckerberg could not fail to create one that allows you to speak with the artificial intelligence system of the house. So, you can give commands at a distance, but also to be notified. If someone comes to the door while he is away, the bot warns you by sending him the picture of the customer.

regarding the speech recognition, explains Zuckerberg, the current systems are much less general than what you think. Much more optimized to understand specific problems when you communicate with them, rather than the conversations between an individual and another. It is not a coincidence that the front is particularly active. DeepMind Google has a system able to recognize the sores, for example, while Amazon has placed at the disposal of the developers of the technologies at the basis of own tools of artificial intelligence.

If the last 12 months are spent teaching Jarvis how to do something, now Zuckerberg wants to understand how to teach the system to learn. the "We are still far from understanding how it works learning", writes: "Everything I made this year, from the natural language, visual recognition, and voice, these are all variations of the same scheme of the recognition techniques [...] we Still do not know how to take the idea of a sector and apply it to something completely different". This is perhaps why, in the introduction of the long post is any suggestion of the system: "That assistant like Jarvis to be able to control everything in the house for most people, is that the more devices are connected to and the industry needs to create common APIS and standards that allow devices to talk to one another".

No reference to the idea of doubling Jarvis — inspiration comes from Iron Man — Robert Downey Junior: the pact was tight, but she’ll have then done?
