Facebook: increase the requests of the Governments access to the account – Fingerprint Unika

Facebook has published the report of transparency by specifying the requests from governments for user data in the first half of 2016. According to the report, the government requests were up 27 percent over the world as compared to the second half of 2015 . The number of requests has grown from 46.710 to 59.229.

most of the requests (56 percent) are coming from the United States, and contained a non-disclosure clause which prevented a Facebook to alert the user in question. As in the reports of transparency earlier, Facebook has also detailed the number of requests for content restriction – that is, the requests from governments in response to messages that violate the local laws.

These actually decreased by 83 percent from 55.827 to 9.663. However, these data do not indicate a general decline in these types of requests on the part of governments. Instead, the numbers of the last cycle, were elevated more than usual due to a strong increase in applications compared to a single image relating to the terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015.

For the first time, Facebook indicated how many times the governments have made the request to store the data of the account, pending legal processes and the formal. This means that, in some cases, the police have turned to social networks with a request to provide a snapshot of the account information, before sending the appropriate forms for such information.

Facebook is noted that to satisfy the demands of preservation, but will not release these records until it receives a request for a formal legal procedure, and valid. The company said it had received 38,675 requests for preservation of 67,129 account.

another new feature is that Facebook has expanded its reporting of emergency requests for countries outside of the United States. These are requests for user data where it is believed there is imminent risk of serious injury or death. During this period, Facebook has received 3.016 emergency requests for 4.192 accounts.

Also, thanks to the reform of the USA Freedom Act, Facebook was able to offer information on the National Security Letters (NSL). The changes have enabled Facebook to exercise its discretion in disclosing that you have received a NSL, when, and how to respond, as well as whether to respond to requests for account information.

The company reiterated that it is not opposed to legal requests, but is fighting to deny requests that it deems to be "deficient or overly broad" and refuses to provide the government a "back door" or direct access to the information of the users. In Italy there were 1872, the requests concerning the legal processes that have involved 2836 account, these data have been provided for the for 56.1 percent. However, there were 41 requests for access to the account for emergencies and have provided data relating to the account in the 70,73%.
