Whatsapp is killing the SMS, Agcom confirms – Impronta Unika

Whatsapp and similar app have utterly destroyed the SMS to confirm this, a study of the Nra. The number of SMS sent in the year 2016 is a decrease of 75 percent compared to 2012, the year in which the Short Message Service have reached the maximum peak.

The SMS are outdated, are now just an old communication system that almost no one uses despite the telephone companies that they seek in all ways to keep in life. But technology, as we know, does not stop and continues to move forward, sometimes very fast like in this case.

As you can read on the pages of the Nra: "Interesting data for the sms sent by the beginning of the year (17.8 billion): that are "cannibalized" by new communication applications, in particular Whatsapp, have been reduced by 27.7% compared to the same period of 2015 and more than 75%, as compared to the maximum level reached in 2012 (72,2 billion)".

To have an order of ideas, and much heavy loss in terms of the number of text messages, in mid-2004, the volume of traffic was equal to 500 billion text messages. An impressive growth if you think that only four years before the SMS sent were only 17 billion.

some Whatsapp has an important role in the departure of the "text", but it is not the only one. Other application accomplice is certainly the Messenger and the other as Telegram. the Whatspp and Messenger, both of Facebook that in the course of the year, has also merged the data of the users supplied to the two applications, and this is having some trouble with the Antitrust authorities.

But, if in the case of Messenger you need to be users of Facebook, in the case of Whatsapp, you only need to have a phone number. The reason for the SMS, now free in almost all the plans of the telephone operators, came out defeated from the fight with the messaging app is very clear and evident.

The SMS text messages, Whatsapp and the like, it is possible to send images, now, GIFS, videos, voice messages, make calls and video calls. In short, there is no comparison between the two systems, the SMS have done their course, and is near the arrival of the last message sent.

Here’s how WhatsApp has buried the sms: -75% in five years – The Sun 24 Hours

But still need sms? And because mobile operators will continue to include them in the tariff plans? Before answering these questions it is necessary to start from some data. Between the Messenger of Facebook and WhatsApp, messages text sent in the world each day are more than 60 billion. A number monster, especially when you consider that both applications are owned by the same company: Facebook Inc. with headquarters in Menlo Park, California. Today’s value: 339 billion dollars.

Ignoring the Messenger, which is essentially an instant messaging platform available to "just" users of Facebook (all over the world are over a billion and a half), it is worth to concentrate on WhatsApp. The application by over a billion users, for which Zuckerberg has detached a cheque for $ 19 billion – is tied to the phone number of each user, and, in fact, has cannibalizzato the old text, translating this success weblog Facebook in a genuine defeat for the giants of the Tlc.

The numbers of the Nra
While this 2016 draws to a close, the Nra has pulled a little sums about the state of health of the sms. What comes out is a result that leaves little room for doubt: WhatsApp – according to data from the Observatory on the communications published by the Nra – has cannibalizzato the old text messages of the text, making it down the numbers in a disruptive way. The sms traffic in 2016 has continued to decline 27.7% compared to the previous year, touching 17.8 billion messages and bringing the passive -75% compared to the maximum level reached in 2012 (72,2 billion sms). The trend is always equal to 4 years: a decrease in with no escape. Sending text messages through the telephone network has now been supplanted by the online mode.

On WhatsApp come calling. Here’s how it works

why is the flop
If the sms’s are dead is not only the fault of the telephone operators, who have given the whole while to keep them alive. Despite the service plans more and more generous, the impact of the App has been violent. WhatsApp and similar (Line, WeChat) have won for graphics, content and potential, the sending of pictures, videos, emoticons, and audio has changed our habits. The old sms has been linked to a way of communicating that belongs to the past.

mobile lines
Always AgCom has studied how things are done in the field of mobile lines: here, according to data released, there has been overall on an annual basis, a slight increase (+410mila lines), due almost exclusively to the Mvno (Mobile Virtual Network Operator). The Observatory has highlighted that the sim traditional (voice + data) fell by 2.2 million units, while rose sim "M2M" (+2.6 million). In the last five years, the overall volume of the sim Machine-to-Machine is more than doubled, from about 4.9 million to 11.4 million units. Regarding the traffic data, the number of the sim with access to the internet grew by 9.7%, exceeding the 53 million units. Telecom Italia confirms to be the market leader with a share of 30.3%, followed by Vodafone (29,2%) and Wind (22,4%).

Alarm Switcher, trojan for Android ‘disguised’ from the app: router to the risk – Intelligonews

Stefano Ursi

The discovery comes from the researchers at Kaspersky Lab, that have identified the presence of a new Android malware named Switcher; the malware, according to what is learned, would be able to take control of your wi-fi router to which you connect the device and reroute the navigation to malicious sites. The mechanism is activated through the change of the Dns. In order to increase the spread, the researchers said, the hackers are doing the hiring to malware in the form of two Android apps, one of which is the imitation of the chinese search engine Baidu, and the other that stands for the search passwords for public wi-fi networks.

If the malware, they explain, are unable to locate the right credentials, go to the settings page of the router and change the address of the default DNS server the legitimate with the malicious one. Although for now the danger is bordered to the chinese territory, is never too much caution, and, therefore, the researchers of the Kaspersky give any advice to defend yourself:

1. Apply the correct settings to the router. First of all, change the default password with a more complex one.

2. Do not install suspicious applications only from official app stores.

3. Use a powerful anti-virus on all devices in use in order to have the maximum security.

Ultra-wideband and goodbye sms, so change the communication of the Italian – AGI – Agenzia Giornalistica Italia

Rome – Broadband, indeed, ultrabroadband, stop the old sms, cannibalizzati from Whatsapp, and a gradual farewell to the traditional sim data, and voice on behalf of those supertecnologiche that, in the future, will allow the devices to ‘talk’ between them (and to give life to an “internet of things”). The data of thethe Communications Observatory, published by Nra, confirm first of all a trend: the italians want the technology. And the Network, with its infinite possibilities, is the great protagonist.

From the Observatory, we also learn that Google continues to be the search engine you clicked. And that we dedicate a day per month, Whatsapp and Facebook, having an average of 23 hours in 30 days. This, probably, even at the expense of reading newspapers: in 2016, in fact, the sales of newspapers continue to decline. And the digital publishing industry, although growing, is not taking off. Remains strong the tv where Rai and Mediaset share the main slices of the audience (even if on levels of share less than 2012) while there is constant growth of the Sky.

  • Want broadband. And ultrabroadband

The total accesses to the fixed network broadband exceed the 15.4 million units – an increase of 630mila units on an annual basis – while the lines Next Generation Access (Nga, lines broadband capable of ensuring high download speeds thanks to technologies based on fiber optics) are more than two million 720 thousand from the beginning of the year), especially thanks to the growth of the Telecom and Vodafone. The data is very significant if you think that in 2012 Italy was the last in Europe to cover Nga (at this link The Italian strategy for next generation access network).

Today’s lines broadband top speed to 10 Mbit (almost 7.5 million of units) are the 48,5% of the total, of which 12.8% is represented by the lines beyond the 30 Mbit. The share of theTelecom Italia equal to 46%, a decrease of 1% compared to the same period of 2015, slowed-down, however, the good performance of the access fibre. To detect the growth of Vodafone (+0.5%) and of some operators for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), which show an overall increase of 0.7%.

  • You browse more and more by mobile phone

The number of sim with access to the internet grew a 9.7% overcoming the 53 million units. The phone, in fact, is increasingly used for the navigation in the network: in September 2012 the sims that have done data traffic increased from 26,8% to 54.5%. In September 2016, in addition, the traffic data results in increased 47% compared to the 2015. In the first nine months of the year, each of us has consumed an average of 1,63 Gig per month (compared to the corresponding 1,22 2015), with a growth of over 33%. the Telecom Italia confirms to be the market leader with a share of 30.3%, followed by Vodafone (29,2%) and Wind (up 22.4%).

  • Grow the Sim M2M. We’ll get to the “internet of things”?

The Observatory highlights that the sim traditional (voice + data) fell by 2.2 million units, while increased so-called sim "M2M", which is ‘Machine to Machine’ (+2.6 million).

Machine to Machine is the technology that allows network devices to exchange information automatically and perform actions without the need for human intervention. The goal is the so-called ‘internet of things’, a concept that is evolutionary and futuristic of the web for which – in the future, everyday objects will be interconnected in a network, and you will speak with one another (and, therefore, the alarm will sound in case of traffic, the box of medicine we will alert you if we forgot a pill, etc.)

In the last five years, the overall volume of the sim Machine-to-Machine” is more than doubled, from approximately 4.9 million to 11.4 million units.

  • The cannibal, Whatsapp are eating sms

Whatsapp cannibalizes sms: fall of 75% in 5 years. The sms sent by the beginning of the year were 17.8 billion. Figure reduced by 27.7% compared to the same period in 2015 and more than 75%, as compared to the maximum level reached in 2012 (when they were 72,2 billion).

  • Newspapers still on the decline

In the field of publishing, in the month of September 2016, the sale of newspapers was slightly more than 2.6 million copies, a decline of around 9.5% compared to September 2015. The competitive framework sees slightly decrease the sales of RCS Mediagroup, and strengthen Gruppo Editoriale l’espresso and the Caltagirone group. The trend, unfortunately, is the state of progressive decline: between 2011 and 2015, with hard copies sold daily increased from 4.8 to 3.1 million units (-35%). The decline of the larger groups was a little less than 30%, while for publishers of smaller size, the reduction is estimated to be in the order of 45%. In publishing the periodical, copies sold annually declined by 33%, going from 1.4 billion in 2011 to approximately 940 million units in 2015. In the only 2015 a decrease of 12.5%.

  • digital Publishing is growing but not booming

In 2015, the digital copies of the newspapers published in digital format have touched 170 million units, equal to 13% of the total paper, with a growth of 4.8% compared to 2014. Digital copies de Il Sole 24 ore, Gruppo Editoriale l’espresso and Rcs Mediagroup together represent about 80% of the total of digital copies.

  • Rai and Mediaset queens of the audience but advance Sky

television market Rai and Mediaset you will confirm in the first places in the ratings (respectively 34.4% and 32.2%), although down from 2012. If the advantage of Sky, which, however, remains in constant growth, going from 6.4% in 2012 to8.7 per cent in September 2016. The audience of Discovery, after a growth from 2012 to 2015, it seems to settle on a stake equal to 6.9%.

  • Fb and Whatsapp rob us of a day of the month

In September 2016, the people that you are connected to the internet have been 29.4 million; however, this figure awesome is that 25,1 millions of users have made from the mobile devices (+4.4 million compared to September 2015). Google is still the perfect search engine (visited 86.7% of the users) with an average time spent per person of 6 hours and 1.3 minutes. On Facebook and Whatsapp, however, spend almost a day per month: 23 hours and 6 minutes.

Amazon plans a stock steering wheel for delivery via drone – Wired.it

Photo: Getty images

In the strategy for the delivery of Amazon there are only the drones project Prime Air, but also true the archive flying, the group of Jeff Bezos could start to build in the future. The company calls them centers run transported by air, or Afc (from Airborne Fulfillment Center), and described them in a patent filed in 2014 in the United States, but was granted only in April of this year and discovered in these days by an analyst Cb Insights.

The document in question tells the story of an aircraft intended for the storage of the products on sale at the website of the company and able to stay in flight above the 13 thousand meters of altitude. In the patent, it also illustrates the methods of delivery of the goods at home: a series of drones dedicated to the distribution and retail are deployed from the flying fortress with the parcel to be delivered, and once completed the operation, return to a warehouse of the earth be shipped on board a shuttle supply that hinges on the storage of fuel and new merchandise.

That Amazon was trying to find a solution to the problem of distribution to the home we knew, but the project presents more of an unknown. From the one hand, unlike a regular warehouse, the Afc has the obvious advantage of moving quickly where it is most required, and to get close to the places of final delivery to reduce the autonomy necessary to the drones for the outbound and return flights.

On the other hand, however, organize in real time and in an efficient way a continuous series of changes of direction of typically announces a nightmare of logistics. Amazon to work on the details of peace from the time the patent was discovered independently of the will of the group it is very likely that at this stage the stock has not even been designed; before seeing him take to the skies in a matter of time.

Italians spend more than half of the time online on the app – ANSA.it

italians are more and more mobile applications and smartphones and tablets now monopolize their time online. This is what emerges from a survey of comScore, according to which more than half of the minutes “digital” in Italy in October has been spent on the app. And on the same users spent 87% of the total time online on mobile devices.
The survey, conducted on a sample of users with more than 18 years of age, of smartphones and tablets Android and iOS, also certifies that, overall, the italians spend more than 46 hours per month on applications, compared to slightly more than 7 hours of direct navigation on the “mobile web”. The total number of minutes that the italians have spent on the app in October amounted to 49 million days, equivalent to 134 thousand years, the time it would take to get back in the Paleolithic.
The growth of the Italian digital market, explain analysts, is driven by the consumption of the internet “mobile”. The trend most obvious is the explosion of applications to the detriment of the desktop, the minutes of October 2016 were down 21% compared to the previous year.
at the top of the most-used apps are those that refer to giants such as Google and Facebook. To October Android smartphone over 70% of the minutes spent on the top-100 apps for the time spent belongs to the first five of the list. A given, say analysts, “that shows how the competitors will face a strong concentration”. This is also shown by data on downloads in October, more than 56% of italians have not downloaded even one app, and of those who did so more than 57% have downloaded only one or two. Only a few users have downloaded more than six applications during the month and represent less than 9% of the total audience.

Galaxy S8, virtual buttons, and wireless headsets – Want …

according to rumors, circulated at the beginning of the month, the Galaxy S8 should have a design "all-screen". This means the elimination of the Home button, as suggested in the last hours, of the hardware buttons capacitive. Another report seems to confirm, indirectly, the absence of jack audio 3.5 mm. the Samsung could throw it with your smartphone, the new in-ear wireless.

To provide a greater viewing area without increasing the overall size of the smartphone, the Korean manufacturer should use an OLED panel with a screen-to-ratio greater than 90%. There will still be a top frame, which is necessary for the front-facing camera, but it will be very thin. The bottom could be eliminated, and with it the Home button, the capacitive buttons and the fingerprint reader. Instead of physical buttons, Samsung could finally have virtual buttons on-screen that will also be pressure-sensitive, and configurable by the user.

the position of fingerprint reader there are two theories: moving to the back of the device or below the screen. In the latter case it is provided the use of optical technology, considered the best of ultrasound. As regards the other alleged specifications are there is something new: the display by 5 and 6 inches, processor Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895, 6 or 8 GB of RAM, 32/64/128 GB of storage, the scanner of the iris, certification IP68, Android operating system 7.1.1 Nougat with interface, Experience, and personal assistant Bixby.

Almost certainly the samsung Galaxy S8 will not have the audio jack 3.5 mm, but only the USB Type-C. Samsung would, however, have planned the launch of new in-ear wireless. It is not clear whether the manufacturer will be working together with Harman and if they will be offered free of charge with your smartphone. It is hoped, however, that the quality is the best IconX, presented at the beginning of June.

Seems to portend this future, after that, in the past few days, it is discovered that a tug of war going on between the police and Us and Amazon to get the data of the Echo platform, internet of things (IoT). The police considers that these can be useful to solve the case of a murder that took place in November 2015, when a man (Andrew Bates) was killed in the bathtub. The main suspect, the owner of the house: Victor Collins.

Already, the police, of Arkansas, has been able to discover from the data of the boiler smart of Collins that there was an abnormal consumption of water from a at three in the morning. Perhaps to wash off the blood? Already this information is so precise, it would be difficult to achieve with domestic appliances analog; but from the Echo, the police hope to have something more: the sound recordings of that night.

The mics of Echo, in fact, are always active. So they can send commands to the electrical appliances when they hear certain key words. The recordings go from the Amazon servers, that process the user’s request. The point is that sometimes the Echo will record a few words for error, without the knowledge of the user.
Amazon has so far refused several times to provide these recordings, fearing it would weaken the confidence of its users. Companies such as Amazon and Google, who are investing, they must fight the idea that the internet of things is a threat to our privacy.

The story reminds us of the incident that occurred between Apple and the Fbi to unlock the iPhone of a terrorist and then have access to your data. But there is now a quantum leap, because with the internet of things any object (or almost) can contain data that is relevant to the investigators. In short, we were just used to the idea that our devices – cell phones and computers – can reveal information that can be used against us, and already we have to contend with the fact that this can apply to all things. From the boiler, the car, the tv, the refrigerator, in fact, because all of these objects are now be fitted with connections and sensors. In some cases (see already with smart tvs or connected cars) will become more and more difficult to go without; the alternative to “analog” is not connected could soon become very bad or disappear completely.

In these cases, you face two schools of thought. Anyone who claims that the investigators have the right to put their hands on the data of the users, wherever they are. And those who fear a slippery china: namely, that at this rate, the producers are forced to provide the State a way to access the data anyway, even bypassing the protections of the user and any encryption. With the risk, in this way, to weaken the security of the device against illegal access (cyber criminal) or otherwise infringe the democratic rights.

it Is a delicate phase of transition. A phase in which the States tend to strengthen the standards for interception and surveillance on the users (recently the has made the United Kingdom). And in which there are few and of doubtful efficacy, the entries institutional in the opposite direction (see the european Court of Justice on the data retention, in the past few days or the Guarantors Privacy of the Eu). In this situation, the difference can make the outcome of the confrontation between police and vendors in technology; although it may be considered a flaw, also the fact that you assign this role as a bulwark of our privacy policy (or our right to correct information), in the silence of the policy.
