PACE MADE between the Swedish Ericsson and Apple patent. The two companies, which had accused each other of violations of royalty, have signed a global licensing agreement that puts an end to a dispute that had lasted for almost a year. Ericsson said that the agreement with the giant Cupertino will last seven years. Apple will pay an initial sum, unspecified, and then proceed with the payment of royalty. The details of the agreement are confidential, but the news of an agreement made jump more than 7% the title of Ericsson. “An agreement outside of court is definitely the way prediligevamo” said Kasim Alfahali, head of Ericsson’s intellectual property. As it said in a note to Ericsson, the agreement includes transversal licenses covering essential patents on standard technologies from both companies, including standard GSM, UMTS and LTE cellular telephone and guarantees certain rights. “The agreement also resolves all cases still pending between the two companies for patent infringement,” it said. The agreement also puts an end to the investigations of the International Trade Commission, the US antitrust authorities and the pending cases in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Holland. The two companies will also undertake to cooperate “in various areas of technology, including the development of the standard 5g new generation, optimization of existing wireless networks and the optimization of video traffic.”
