Over the last three years, Instagram and Pinterest – two social networks focused on images and photos – have doubled the number of users, while other social networks have not recorded significant increases, even LinkedIn for the first time last year fell. This is shown by a study conducted in the US by the Pew Research Center, according to which the “king” of social remains by far Facebook.
According to the survey, indicated that they use options 31% of Internet users adults (15% in 2012), while Instagram uses 28% of the respondents (13% in 2012). The involvement is greater for Instagram, the app to share photos and videos owned by Facebook: the use every day, 59% of users.
While the platforms Pinterest and LinkedIn respectively are visited daily by 27% and 22% of users. The professional social network, LinkedIn, is the only one to have recorded a decline in the last year: 25% of Internet users in 2015 against 28% in 2014. Facebook is the undisputed leader of social platforms: it uses 72% of Internet users, 62% of the US adult population.
For the first time the research institute analyzed as a category in its own applications to exchange messages. 36% of smartphone owners said they used apps like WhatsApp and iMessage, while only 17% use apps so-called “disposable” type snapchat, those that automatically delete the messages exchanged. The use of chat on smartphones is higher among young adults (aged 18-29 years).
