Galaxy Note 7, the flop because of the size of the battery – The Republic

Now lacks only the official one, which will arrive on Monday, but in the meantime, the Wall Street Journal has anticipated the conclusions of the survey carried out by Samsung in order to understand the problems which have led to the removal of the Galaxy Note 7. As you may recall, in fact, as a result of many episodes of burning or explosion, after a first retrieval, the Korean giant has had to raise the white flag and permanently withdraw from the market, that perhaps it was the best phablet ever made. Known to cause was obviously the battery, but it was necessary to understand why it catches on fire so easily.

The Note 7 was equipped with batteries produced by the affiliate, Samsung SDI, or from the company’s Hong Kong Amperex Technology Ltd. Initially, Samsung believed that the problem was caused by the battery of the affiliate, and, after a first appeal, cancelled the commissions of the latter, while increasing the demands on the second.

In fact, the first hypothesis was right: the batteries produced by Samsung SDI, in fact, had inaccuracies in the measures that made it perfectly suited to the chassis of the Notes 7. This discrepancy measures, together with the fact that, as we know, the batteries are thin, have led to excessive pressures, which in many cases have resulted in the two electrodes to touch each other, triggering processes of overheating of the electrolyte.

Unfortunately for Samsung, however, is the increase sudden and drastic asked the other company has led to the emergence of production problems that have undermined the stability of these batteries. For the moment, Samsung SDI, and ATL did not want to comment on the news, maybe they are waiting for the official announcement.

It seems, finally, to reassure the authorities, concerned about the possible perception of the problem, the company has also explained to have created a new process of eight steps that, among the various measures, including more testing, more controls and more guarantees of quality in the manufacturing processes. Will it be enough? We’ll find out soon, since the end of march should be the debut of the new Galaxy S8.
