Galileo, ready to launch two other satellites

It widens the European satellite navigation system Galileo. Tomorrow, the EU program will launch two more satellites into space and will thus have a total of 6 satellites in orbit. The launch will take place in the European Cosmodrome in Kourou, French Guiana, at 14:31 CET. “This launch marks another milestone for Galileo and represents a further step towards a real European satellite navigation system,” says the European Commission. These two satellites are the first of a series of full ownership of the EU.

With the impending arrival of a new series of satellites of this type that will add to the existing park, the availability and coverage of the Galileo signal will improve gradually, making it closer to being a fully operational program . The satellites that will be launched tomorrow, Doresa and Milena were baptized with the names of two school-winners of a drawing competition conducted on the EU scale to find them a name.

The information provided by Galileo improved in terms of positioning and timing reference “will have positive implications for different services and users in Europe” emphasizes the European executive. “The products that people use in everyday life, such as navigation systems in their cars and cell phones will benefit from more accuracy ensured by Galileo,” remarked the EU Commission.
