the artificial intelligence is the new big gripe of the technological world. From Google to Facebook to Apple, the hi-tech industry elite is investing more and more conspicuous figures in this area. The last operation of some importance has signed Microsoft, and was announced this morning before the Financial Times, and then by the Redmond company through a post on the official blog. The US giant has removed a check for $ 250 million to acquire a European start, the SwiftKey, famous for the homonymous keyboard invention for iOS and Android.
The agreement, currently being defined, provides that each of the two founders of the London-based startup, Jon Reynolds and Ben Medlock, should be $ 30 million. A very important figure, which makes this one of the richest acquisitions in startup environment.
“We will continue to develop the SwiftKey keyboard for Android and iOS, and explore how to integrate its core technology through our products and services portfolio,” said Harry Shum, Executive Vice President of Technology and Research Group at Microsoft. The intelligent keyboard produced by SwiftKey, available on the play store Android eche on the Apple store, is a software entirely based on machine learning. The basic concept is to learn the user’s behavior to the keyboard, so as to adapt and improve utilization. A predictive keyboard, then, that after a few days of use can guess the word that we are going to write or the emoticons we want to send.
Currently, according to numbers provided by the Financial Times, SwiftKey has already installed about three hundred million smartphones in the world. Samsung and BlackBerry have even pre-installed keyboard on some of their devices. Microsoft’s goal is to bring SwiftKey on the mobile device with Windows 10. And Redmond engineers are convinced that intelligent keypad able to run perfectly with the voice assistant home, Cortana. With this investment, however, Satya Nadella and his team confirm to focus a lot on artificial intelligence, the land of the new digital challenges.
