The two top of the range most ‘expected at Mobile World Congress 2016 – the G5 LG and Samsung Galaxy S7 – were officially unveiled Sunday, February 21 in the respective press conferences of the two producers (here that of LG, here the Samsung), and it’s time to make a comparison between the new device to find out which, on paper, is the best. Followed then a comparison of Samsung Galaxy S7 (S7 and Galaxy Edge) with LG G5 analyzing the type and quality of the display, the processor used, the type of camera and software.
Let us now a premise : on paper, as you will notice in the comparative table, the Galaxy S7 and LG G5 are very similar, so the real differences are ‘in the field’, ie that the manufacturers have given the best they could , then the final judgment is always subjective, depending on the use that is made of the smartphone. From our point of view we believe that a plus in this case has the LG G5, being in fact the first smartphone to come to market with a modular design, since the bottom can ‘be extracted from your smartphone to integrate modules various kind, for example to enhance the camera department rather than audio. The Galaxy S7 Edge is a ‘plus’ of the Galaxy S7 basic, being the first phone with a curved display on both sides, but it is not an innovation because Samsung already’ proposes a number of years.
made Preconditions , we compare the main Galaxy S7 and LG G5, with the eye of even about the Galaxy S7 Edge.
Display . All three phones have the same resolution Quad HD (2560 x 1440) but having all a diagonal of different screen, changes accordingly the amount of pixels per inch. Samsung Galaxy S7 features a 5.1-inch display Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution (2560 x 1440) with 577ppi, while the ‘edge’ version has an ever Quad HD display but more ‘large 5.5 inches so with 534ppi. LG G5 has a 5.3-inch LCD display with 554ppi. On paper, for quantity of pixels per inch, wins the Galaxy S7.
All three phones also have a display of the type ‘Always On’, so they are equipped with a display that is always active, which allows users to see notifications and other information quickly and easily on the display.
LG G5 comes with a dedicated memory and a secondary chip so that the main chipset can ‘stop working when the screen always- on is every day more and on all day, (24/7). The secondary chip does not consume a lot of battery, just 0.8% of the battery per hour. Regarding the consumption of the battery display always-on Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy S7 S7 edge there are no official information, but it is estimated that consumption by 1% per hour.
Body and coating . LG G5 has an all-metal body and beveled glass on the front. The two Galaxy S7 Samsung have a body also made of metal. The substantial difference here is that the LG G5 has the bottom that you can ‘detach, and with it also detaches the battery, which can be removed to replace it with a lower unit in combination with additional components such as LG CAM Plus and LG Hi- Fi Plus, module respectively to power the camera and sound.
Size and Weight . In terms of SIZED, the more ‘great is inevitably the Galaxy S7 edge having the major diagonal (150.9×72.6×7.7mm), while the more’ smaller the Galaxy S7 (142.4×69.6×7.9mm). LG is square in the middle, with 149.4×73.9×7.7mm measures. The thickness is the same for Galaxy S7 edge and LG G5 (7.7mm) while it is higher for the
Galaxy S7 (7.9mm). As regards the there is no substantial difference weight, being for all and three between 152 and 159 grams, with more ‘heavy which happens to be the G5 (159g) and more’ light the Galaxy S7 (152g); in the middle of the square is the Galaxy S7 edge (157g).
Battery . To contribute to weight is the battery, which is more ‘large in the Galaxy S7 edge and is less so in LG G5: starting from the most’ small G5 from 2800mAh to more ‘large 3600mAh Galaxy S7 edge, passing through the intermediate from 3000mAh Galaxy S7.
Software . As for the software, there are no basic differences, we all have an operating system based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the latest version of Android available today. Each manufacturer has added the usual programs such as TouchWiz Samsung or LG Optimus UX 5.0 IU, and is optimizing custom user interface to improve (or worsen) the Google software.
Camera . Samsung Galaxy S7 and ‘edge’ variant offer a rear camera with a sensor of 12MP Dual Pixels with focal aperture of f / 1.7 with Smart OIS, while in the front there is a 5MP camera with focal aperture of f / 1.7. LG G5 offers dual rear camera with a 16MP sensor and a sensor 8MP ‘wide’ while in front you will find an 8MP camera for selfies. Samsung said it had focused on the sensor quality rather than quantity of pixels, but the configuration of LG Dual Camera looks the best on paper.
Hardware . The hardware does not change the essence, because all three are powered by the chipset Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 64-bit CPU + dual-core 2.15GHz and 1.6GHz dual-core CPU with a GPU Adreno 530. It ‘worth remembering that the two Galaxy S7 have a processor that changes according to the market, but in Italy should get the model with the Snapdragon SoC 820 (other countries will sell the model with Exynos 8890 Octa chip with CPU Quad-core 2.3 GHz CPU + quad -core 1.6 GHz and Mali-T880 GPU MP12). Perhaps LG has better optimized hardware of his G5, having chosen to integrate a secondary chip so that the main chipset can ‘stop working when the always-on screen always remains on all day, every day (24/7 ). LG G5, then it should last longer ‘in equal use.
Storage . In terms of memory, all have 4GB of RAM LPDDR4. For the internal space, all start from a storage of 32GB configuration, in all cases expandable with external microSD card for other 200GB (2TB). Samsung has reintroduced the slot for the microSD after removing the previous generation, a move that is not liked by many consumers.
Connectivity . The Samsung Galaxy S7 to offer support for WiFi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac (2.4 / 5GHz), MIMO, Bluetooth v 4.2 LE, ANT +, USB 2.0, NFC and LTE Cat.9 (450 Mbps download, 50 Mbps upload). LG G5 offers support for WiFi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac (2.4 / 5GHz), Bluetooth v 4.2 LE and apt-X, USB 3.0 Type-C, NFC and LTE Cat.9.
More to report . The Galaxy S7 Samsung have the IP68 certification, which means that Galaxy S7 is resistant against dust and water (1.5 meters for 30 minutes) while LG G5 no. All hano the fingerprint reader. LG G5 has USB 3.0 Type-C while the Galaxy S7 a traditional microUSB 2.0 connector.
